Overview :
The Transmission Business Unit, (TBU) is actively hiring a Gas Controller to join the team. The Gas Controller is responsible for supporting the year round, 24-hour per day remote operation from the Calgary Control Center. This position monitors, controls and ensures the safe, reliable efficient operation of the pipeline system.
The role will also be proactive in directing emergency response efforts, maintaining on-going communication with other facilities, and providing operational information. This position oversees remote operations and continually strives to optimize operations.
Pembina's Transmission Pipeline assets have developed through the strategic acquisition of key natural gas, ethane and condensate transportation infrastructure assets, positioned in some of the most prolific gas producing regions in western Canada and the United States. The Transmission Pipelines provide customers with access to premium markets primarily on a fee-for-service basis under long-term contracts through long-haul pipelines.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to :
- Support Pembina’s safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the “Life Saving Rules”. To read more about our Life Saving Rules, visit pembina.com / safety;
- Daily remote operation of the pipeline using a SCADA system to monitor and respond to pipeline events;
- Monitor pipeline to ensure that the dewpoint temperature of the gas remains well above pipeline temperatures;
- Monitor pipeline to ensure any leak is immediately detected;
- Execute emergency response procedures;
- Communication with the Field Operations groups for alarm response and managing equipment performance which includes initiating callout work orders;
- Ensure and maintain all regulatory compliance requirements including Department of Transportation Operator Qualified (DOT OQ) and Control Room Management (CRM);
- Main operational point of contact with Connecting Pipeline Operators and Common Stream Operators;
- Respond to Gas Quality events on the system to ensure employee safety and maintain facility integrity;
- Maintaining an electronic log of pipeline (eLog) events during their shift rotation including shift handover;
- Support the Team as required during the Utility Position rotation;
- Monitor and respond to power dispatch requirements for the Alberta Electrical System operator (AESO); and
- Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications :
This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” and so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing which includes testing for marijuana metabolites. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.
The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
