Job Summary : The Facultyof Science invites applications for a limited-term Laboratory TechnicianAssistant reporting to the Teaching Professor and Lab Coordinators in Biology.
Nature of work : TheLaboratory Technician Assistant (Biology) is required to provide help andsupport to the biology technicians for nontechnical tasks associated with the runningof the biology teaching laboratories.
The successful candidate will beresponsible for glassware and plasticware washing; preparation of glassware andplasticware for laboratory uses (including autoclaving), disposal of waste,cleaning laboratories and associated prep rooms, assisting with set up and takedown labs if necessary, weekly checking of eye wash stations and spore testingof autoclave and other duties as needed.
Responsibilities / accountabilities :
Thesuccessful candidate will be responsible for :
- Making sureglassware is properly cleaned (or may affect success of experiment)
- Making surethat glassware and plasticware is properly stocked in the different laboratories
- Keepingthings organized and tidy in the glasswashing room
- Able tofollow instructions and be reliable
Required Skills :
- Strongability to follow written and oral directions
- Somebackground in biology laboratory procedures would be preferred
Required Education :
- Applicants should possessat least a high school diploma
- Verification of Academic credentials may be required
Required Experience :
Experienceworking in a laboratory setting. Applicants with prior experience in theFaculty of Science labs at Ontario Tech University will be preferred.
