Job Summary : Theassistant coach supports the coaching, development, recruitment, and retentionof athletes for the varsity men’s soccer program.
Theassistant coach will help in the creation of an environment conducive to thedevelopment of athletes within a structure that is integrally linked to theUniversity.
Nature of work :
Reporting to the Manager, Intercollegiate Athletics. The assistant coach will take a lead role inrecruitment and administrative tasks as well as supporting the head coach inguiding the program in a manner which is consistent with the values of theUniversity and in accordance with its mission.
The soccer program is an important varsity sport offering at OntarioTech that is focused on developing student athletes and fostering success andprofile at the provincial and national level.
It is critical that the assistant coach adheresto and is an advocate of the policies, procedures, operational and planningcycles of Ontario Tech University.
Responsibilities / accountabilities :
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT :
- Support the implementation of the program annual plan.
- Lead role in team administrative responsibilities ( team paperwork, registrations, waivers and game film analysis
- Supports the coordination of team travel and logistical team components (in consultation with the Athletic Department)
- Support the organization of team related activities, including games, training camps, practice sessions and other team functions.
- Provide assistance to players with their academics through the advice of the athletic advisor in the department.
- Overseeing the team social media platforms
COACHING THETEAM :
- Support annual program objectives which will motivate athletes to strive for their best potential performances.
- Reinforces positive culture for student-athletes to the policies and regulations of the University, Varsity Athletics, OUA and USPORTS
- Support the Implementation and evaluation of the following team initiatives.
- Annual training plans for the teams and individual players
- A team playing system, culture and philosophy.
- Detailed strategy and plan for each game and practice
- Regular evaluation ofplayer, team and staff progress through statistics, meetings and feedback
RECRUITMENT :
- Working in full collaboration with the HC in creating the annual national recruiting strategy to attract the best student athletes to the program.
- Contact and liaise with potential recruits according to OUA, USPORTS and Ontario Tech rules and regulations.
- Foster relationships with clubs and organizations where student athletes would be recruited from.
- Communicate and liaise withthe Athletic Department and recruitment office regarding student athletes whoare being recruited or have committed to the university.
REVENUEGENERATION :
- The assistant coach will develop a plan for the achievement of the self-financing objectives for the program in consultation with the head coach and athletic department.
- The assistant coach willsupport the development, marketing, staffing, implementation and oversight ofany Ridgebacks hockey camps and clinics
COMMUNITY RELATIONS :
- Grow and foster alumni through events, communication and fundraising.
- Promote the program and university in general through conducting and participating in events, coaching clinics and functions with local sport organizations.
Required Skills :
- A proven record of integrity, high principles, and demonstrated skill in developing / motivating student-athletes both academically and athletically.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, get along and work well with members of the department, supervisors and other employees of the university
Required Education :
- Undergraduate Bachelor degree of two academic years or equivalent relatedexperience to coaching is required. Minimum Coaching Certification NCCP Level I, or equivalent
- Verification of Academic credentials may be required
Required Experience :
- Up to and including 1 year of coaching experience preferably at the University, local, provincial level, or equivalent
- Playing experience preferably at the University level at minimum
