Limited Term Faculty Member - Academic Associate - Communication and Digital Media Studies
Responsibilities / Accountabilities :
Ontario Techis a technology-enhanced learning environment, and the candidate shall beexpected to have skills in the integration of technology into teaching and tomodel those skills in their own teaching in the University’s web-centric andmobile learning environment.
Primary duties include preparing, delivering, andgrading all course material, assignments, quizzes and exams for asassigned.
The Academic Associate will be available for consultation withstudents during and following completion of the course. Duties may include thesupervision of teaching assistant(s).
The successfulcandidate will be appointed as an Academic Associate for the Communication and Digital Media Studies (CDMS) program acrossthe two new specializations in Creativity, Digital Arts and EntertainmentIndustries and Strategic Communications, Social Media & Society inthe 2024-2025 academic year and will be expected to follow a teaching andservice workload each year of this contract.
- In the FALL,WINTER, and SPRING / SUMMER terms, the LTFM may teach 7 of the following courses : COMM 1000 Introduction to Communication and Media Studies;
- COMM 1420 - LivingDigitally : Social Media, Society & Culture; COMM 2110 - CommunicationTheory; COMM 2620 - Professional Communication;
- COMM 4261 - OnlineCreators-Entrepreneurs; COMM 2311 Creative Industries; COMM 3250 - PopularCulture & Entertainment; COMM 2411 - Governing Communication and DigitalCreativity;
COMM 3720 - Knowing Your Audience : Audience Studies; COMM 3410 -Designing Hits : Storytelling in the Digital Age; COMM 4130 - Capstone CreatorProject.
The LTFM will also contribute to CDMS program service related tostudent recruitment and retention, curricular quality enhancement, and hands onlearning at the Creator4Change Studio.
Overall, the LTFM will collaborate withfaculty members, staff and students in the CDMS program of the Faculty ofSocial Science and Humanities (FSSH) to sustain the delivery of the program.
The LTFM workload will be 70% teaching and 30% service for the year of thecontract.
We seek a candidate with a proven record of excellence in teaching,research, and service within the interdisciplinary fields of communication, mediaand cultural studies.
Expertise in media and creative production, along with acommitment to mentorship, is essential.
Required Skills :

- Evidence of professional media / creative production teaching, mentorship, advising, and collaboration experience;
- Evidence of service contribution to communication and media studies fields

- Evidence of an ability to apply research expertise to teaching and pedagogical practices that foster professional communication and media-creative production skills in learners;
- Evidence of knowledge mobilization activities pertinent to communication and media studies fields;
- Ability to teach in a variety of forums
- Ability to undertake technology enhanced teaching and learning
- A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies;

Required Education :
PhD in Communication & Culture and / or Media Studies
Required Experience :
- Undergraduate teaching excellence in communication and media studies fields
- Professional multi-media / creative production experience (as mentor, advisor, collaborator and creator)
- Service to the communication and media studies profession (, in departments, programs, communities, networks, projects)
- Peer-reviewed research activities in communication and media Studies fields (, books, edited volumes, journal articles, chapters, conference presentations, invited talks, grants).
- Knowledge mobilization activities related to communication and media Studies fields (, public pedagogy, community events, journalism, social media activities, media production experience : online videos;
film and television; podcasts, etc)..
This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website.
Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the collective agreement.
