Reporting to the Senior Fleet Safety Advisor, the Fleet Safety Advisor will support the Fleet Safety Team by providing boots-on-the-ground CVOR / NSC Compliance & Education supporting cross-Canada operations and liaising between the Fleet Operations Team, Corporate HSE Team and Operations Teams.
The Fleet Safety Driver will operate out of GIP's locations across Ontario East.
Key Responsibilities include :
- Acting as the main point of contact for CVOR, NSC, Provincial Highway Traffic Acts, Regulations, Federal Law and GIP Policies & Procedures as they relate to Transportation Safety.
- Ensuring that drivers understand and adhere to all Safety legislation and company policies.
- Training employees with previous commercial vehicle driving experience to drive the vehicle in a safe and acceptable manner according to GIP’s Policies and Procedures, Laws, Regulations, Industry accepted standards and MTO / DOT regulatory requirements.
- Developing, maintaining and teaching the MTO Driver Certification Program (DCP).
- Re-training current drivers either proactively or in a remedial corrective action fashion to help reinforce policies and procedures that will enhance their safe driving skills.
- Conducting pre-hire driver evaluations to determine competencies.
- Organizing and instructing classroom theory and hands-on practical courses including but not limited to : Defensive Driving Closed Course, Load Securement, Safe Backing, Pre-Trip Inspections, and Electronic Logs.
- Conduct field observations or ride-a-longs with written assessments / feedback / re-certification to the driver and management.
- Carrying out proactive yard visits and audit drivers’ documentation and required safety items to ensure compliance.
- Conducting site and shop audits to ensure all required documentation that relates to drivers, vehicles and maintenance is up to date and meets all CVOR requirements.
- Monitoring drivers Hours of Service on the GeoTab Drive ELD system and conduct coaching moments to both drivers and operations to reduce violations.
- Providing detailed reporting on assessments, trends, competency measurements, and re-certifications as appropriate and / or requested.
- Maintaining driver files in compliance with CVOR and Insurance requirements, including maintaining a Fleet Drivers List and CVOR Drivers List.
Is responsible for uploading and filing all documentation and training specific to drivers and fleet into the Flex system.
- Conducting adequate on-scene and tabletop collision investigations and write reports for all major vehicle collisions.
- Developing and maintain all Fleet Safety related training content.
- Supporting the Fleet Safety Team with administrative duties where necessary.
Position Requirements :
- 3+ years as a Driver Trainer or Fleet Safety Professional is needed.
- 1+ years tractor trailer experience is considered an asset.
- Ability to lift 50lbs and climb in, out, and under commercial vehicles.
- Grade 12 Education.
- AZ or DZ Driver’s License with a Clean CVOR and Drivers Abstract.
- Ability to operate and teach on a manual transmission vehicle.
- Extensive knowledge of CVOR, NSC, HTA, TDG, NSC Standards.
- MTO Fleet Signing Authority Driver Certification Program or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Experience with GeoTab GPS would be considered an asset.
- Experience with ELD systems, specifically GeoTab Drive.
- Collision Investigation Course Certification.
