As a member of the CBC News Ops Team, you will play a key role in projects that are essential to delivering the capabilities that CBC News requires to realize its mission and audience strategy.

As a Senior Business Analyst , you will gather business requirements through various facilitation and discovery methods with multiple collaborators, to support the configuration and implementation of new tools and workflows.

To be successful in this role, you will need a strong understanding of media production and metadata-driven workflows.

You will support change management initiatives by ensuring user needs and feedback are defined, documented, and translated into seamless tools and processes.

You will need strong communication skills and the ability to create a collaborative working environment to ensure alignment of priorities across multiple teams.

By collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data from pilot projects, you will apply a continuous improvement approach to developing standard operating procedures for media production that improve the audience and employee experience.

The majority of work hours for this position are expected to fall within standard business hours (e.g., 7 : 00 AM and 3 : 00 PM or 11 : 00 AM and 7 : 00 PM), with flexibility required to accommodate operational demands as well as being designated "on-call".

Our content production, publication and presentation environment is composed of many platforms and systems supported by a number of functional groups within the organization.

The ability to collaborate with these teams and clearly define and communicate business requirements and user needs will be key to succeeding in this role.

Main responsibilities and impact :

  • Gather, define, and document business requirements and user needs using inclusive facilitation and discovery methods; lead Continuous Improvement process for network problems, including leading meetings and stakeholder consultation
  • Prioritize problems and opportunities according to capacity, resources, and benefits. Tracking progress and escalating issues as required to ensure deliverables are met;

guide the Continuous Improvement process by maintaining action logs, assigning tasks, prioritizing issues, analyze data to identify systemic problems and make recommendations to address root causes

Configure and implement new tools and workflows using qualitative and quantitative data that meet business requirements and improve the user experience;

improve the protocol for support issues with new playout system for FAST channels

  • Leverage metadata-driven workflows to improve how we create and distribute content; improve the workflow to find modular video content in our production systems for distribution to multiple endpoints
  • Support change management initiatives by ensuring users' needs and feedback are addressed
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders and teams across the organization to ensure priorities are aligned and requirements are clearly defined and communicated
  • Collect and analyze data from pilot projects to develop standard operating procedures for media production that will improve the user and audience experience
  • Interact with peers and senior management across the CBC News division, and promote a positive team environment through clear communication

Qualifications, Experience and Skills :

Education :

Degree in the field of Information Science and / or equivalent experience and training.

Experience (relevant to the role) :

Experience in change management and continuous improvement

Knowledge and Skills :

  • Experienced / familiar with facilitation and discovery methods to identify pain points and opportunities to improve tools, workflows and processes in media production
  • Experienced / familiar with media production and publication processes in a news environment
  • Experienced / familiar with structured metadata and leveraging metadata-driven workflows to improve content discovery and distribution
  • Experienced / familiar with conducting and learning from pilot projects to develop and implement standard operating procedures in media production
  • Experienced / familiar with change management initiatives and supporting users through methodologies such as Knowledge Management and communities of practice
  • Experienced / familiar with Continuous Improvement as a daily practice for guiding incremental improvements
  • Data analysis skills : derive and present business insights from quantitative and qualitative data to inform the continuous improvement of tools, workflows, and processes
  • Communication skills : speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques that are appropriate for the audience, situation, and desired outcome
  • Knowledge of UX practices is considered a strong asset
