Our Environmental Services Group (ESG) provides our clients with expertise in climate change, environmental assessment & management, noise & vibration, social impact management, sustainable development design, and water resources. With your help, we can build extraordinary things that co-exist, and benefit local communities and habitats.

We are currently seeking an experienced Construction Environmental Lead to support a major project located north of Fredericton, New Brunswick. This is a site-based role responsible for ensuring environmental compliance throughout construction activities while promoting a culture of environmental accountability, risk management, and continuous improvement.

This position is ideal for an environmental professional who thrives in a field environment, enjoys collaborating with contractors and project teams, and has strong knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and construction monitoring practices.

What You'll Do

Environmental Compliance & Site Leadership

  • Lead the implementation and ongoing management of the Project Environmental Management Plan (EMP).
  • Ensure construction activities comply with all applicable environmental legislation, permit conditions, authorizations, approvals, and project commitments.
  • Review, approve, and monitor Contractor-Specific Environmental Protection Plans (C-SEPPs).
  • Conduct regular environmental inspections, audits, and compliance assessments across the project site.
  • Provide environmental leadership and guidance to contractors, project teams, and site personnel.
  • Promote proactive environmental risk management and continuous improvement initiatives.

Monitoring, Auditing & Environmental Assurance

  • Oversee quality assurance of contractor-led environmental monitoring programs.
  • Conduct targeted compliance inspections and performance assurance reviews.
  • Coordinate independent monitoring activities and verify the effectiveness of environmental controls.
  • Identify environmental risks, deficiencies, and non-conformances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Track and ensure timely closure of corrective and preventative actions.

Environmental Permitting & Regulatory Management

  • Support environmental permitting activities and ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage project environmental tracking tools, including:
    • Environmental Risk Registers
    • Regulatory Compliance Matrices
    • Permit Registers and Tracking Systems
  • Coordinate internal environmental authorizations and permit-related documentation.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies when required.

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Prepare environmental reports, inspection summaries, incident investigations, and compliance documentation.
  • Participate in project and construction meetings as the environmental subject matter expert.
  • Lead discussions with contractor representatives regarding environmental performance and compliance expectations.
  • Support environmental incident response, investigations, and follow-up actions.

Training & Environmental Awareness

  • Deliver environmental orientation sessions for workers, contractors, and project personnel.
  • Develop and provide targeted environmental awareness and compliance training.
  • Promote environmental best practices and foster a strong environmental culture on site.

Environmental Studies & Specialized Support

  • Coordinate wildlife sweeps, environmental surveys, and other field investigations as required.
  • Support the development of environmental requirements for subcontracted work and technical scopes.
  • Act as Project Environmental Manager when required.

What You Bring

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Master's degree considered an asset.
  • Eligible for, or holding, a relevant professional designation is considered an asset.

Experience

  • 8+ years of progressive experience supporting construction projects from an environmental compliance and permitting perspective.
  • Demonstrated experience monitoring environmental performance on large construction, infrastructure, energy, industrial, or linear development projects.
  • Strong understanding of provincial and federal environmental legislation and permitting frameworks.
  • Experience developing, implementing, or auditing Environmental Management Plans and Environmental Protection Plans.
  • Experience working within engineering consulting, EPCM, owner, contractor, or utility environments is highly valued.
  • Experience supporting renewable energy projects, wind projects, transmission lines, pipelines, transportation, or other linear infrastructure projects is an asset.

  • English proficiency (written and spoken) is required.
