Summary :

Under the direction of the Manager of Housing the Supervisor of Housing Advocacy / EPIC team is responsible for supervising a team of Housing Advocate / Eviction Prevention Workers assisting Indigenous community members with preventing evictions and meeting their temporary and permanent housing needs through individualized case management.

Responsibilities :

  • Supervision of EPIC program and Housing Advocate / Eviction Prevention Workers.
  • Ensuring the policies, procedures and program guidelines and expectations are adhered to in accordance with Funder and NCFST policy and procedures.
  • Working in collaboration with Manager of Housing to ensure program continuity for community members and comprehensive direction for staff.
  • Ensuring the physical safety of staff, community members, and physical buildings.
  • Providing crisis management and de-escalation guidance and support as needed.
  • Providing conflict resolution between staff members and community members etc.
  • Compile and review EPIC program data for funding reports and ensure these are completed and submitted as per Funder requirements.
  • Ensure ADP timesheet information for all staff is complete, accurate and submitted on time.
  • Scheduling of staff for the Housing Advocacy / EPIC Team.
  • Responsible for maintaining budgets and expenditures in ongoing consultation with the Manager of Housing.
  • Rotating On-Call hours and vacation coverage with Housing Supervisory team.
  • Ensuring culturally grounded programming and service delivery for all community members.
  • Attend Housing network and funder meetings, including EPIC, TSSS, Housing Secretariat, TSN, IPAC, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills :

  • Post-Secondary education in the Human Services field or equivalent and a minimum of three years relevant experience with a minimum of one year’s relevant experience working in a supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding and practice of Indigenous approaches to well-being, including land-based practices and cultural knowledge.
  • Connection to First Nation, Métis, Inuit communities would be considered an asset.
  • High literacy in Indigenous Cultures, Urban Indigenous issues, and understand the unique dynamics that exist within the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures.
  • Must pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Exceptional leadership, conflict management and mediation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management and organizational skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of community resources and community partners.
  • Detailed knowledge of housing resources, tenant rights and issues concerning the unhoused.
  • Proven ability to liaise effectively with external agencies, community members and stake holders.
  • Adept understanding of digital databases, project management software and communication technology.
  • Effective decision maker with a track record demonstrating innovation, problem solving and conflict resolution skills, promoting organizational performance and continuous improvement and the ability to promote and foster teamwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing work demands and to manage a high volume of work.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to, integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values in to practice, service and relationships.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibility under current legislation.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity and build strong internal relationships.
