Reuters is seeking two Breaking News Correspondents to join its U.S.-Canada Breaking News Team covering some of the biggest political and general news stories, including the U.
S. presidential election and its aftermath. The ideal candidates will have sound news judgment, a track record of producing sharp reporting on deadline and an appetite for covering stories across politics, policy and national affairs in the United States and Canada.
No two days on the Breaking News Team are the same. One day you could be covering consequential news at the White House, State Department, Congress, and Canada's parliament.
The next, you might be making calls to confirm details of a wildfire, a crime or an entertainment story, working closely with multimedia colleagues across the newsroom and around the world.
All the while, you'd have the opportunity to pitch and report your own spot news stories, often working with members of the reporting visual teams.
Correspondents would join a team responsible for breaking and quickly reporting political and national affairs stories, through a 24 / 7 monitoring operation covering social media, broadcast feeds and press releases.
The Correspondent would regularly apply their news judgment to identify and triage news developments, write and publish alerts and produce updates of major breaking stories from campaigns, social policy changes, the White House to extreme weather events.
