Seeking an experienced caregiver/health care aide for a 51 year old woman with ALS in a private home setting. We are currently looking for coverage for weekend only. Due to client comfort, we are looking for a female caregiver. Please respond with your availability and expected wage. The woman has very limited mobility. She needs assistance with all transfers to commode or wheelchair, as well as getting up to sitting from laying down. Familiarity with the use of lifts is essential. There will often be someone else in the home as well, but you must be comfortable and competent being left alone with the patient for respite periods, and she must be comfortable in your care. We are currently looking for coverage for the specific shifts of Saturday morning, Saturday evening, and Sunday morning. Location: located in Copperfield SE, Calgary There is no rail transportation available to this neighborhood, but there is a bus stop nearby. Personal Duties Include: - Assist with personal care (bathing, general grooming, toileting, dressing) - Physiotherapy exercises with client - Administering supplements and remedies - Transfer and mobility assistance including use of lifts - Meal prep and feeding - Light household cleaning duties - Laundry - Other duties as required Other Considerations: The situation is currently very fluid and we do not know what her care needs will be in the future. There is one cat in the household. You: - Health Care Aide designation preferable as well as knowledge of ALS, or a combination of education and experience - Strong English required as communication is incredibly important - Must be extremely competent in understanding oral directives without being shown, as patient is verbal but cannot physically demonstrate directives. - Criminal record check - Valid drivers license - Ability to lift 50 lbs - Reliable, friendly, and respectful - It would be great if you had some flexibility to take on additional hours occasionally or in case of an emergency. There likely would be the option for additional hours as the situation progresses. Pay: - starting at $20-21/hour depending on experience. - This is not a cash job, your SIN will be registered as this job is funded by the Alberta government homecare program.
