Job description
HR, Payroll & Operations Specialist

Canada | Full-Time

Are you an HR and payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced industrial environment?

We’re looking for a hands-on HR, Payroll & Operations Specialist to join our team in Canada and play a key role in supporting our people, payroll, and day-to-day operations.

This is not your typical HR desk job.

We’re looking for someone who understands HR and payroll, but is equally comfortable working alongside shop, field, and operations teams. You know how to handle employee questions, payroll deadlines, compliance requirements, vendors, invoices, purchase orders, and the unexpected issues that come with a busy oilfield services operation.

If you’re organized, resourceful, comfortable wearing multiple hats, and enjoy being the person everyone can count on — we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

As our HR, Payroll & Operations Specialist, you’ll work closely with local management and employees to keep our people and operations running smoothly.

HR & Employee Support

  • Manage day-to-day HR administration and employee support
  • Coordinate employee onboarding, orientations, and required documentation
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records
  • Support benefits administration and employee inquiries
  • Coordinate employee compliance requirements, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Assist management with HR policies, procedures, and employee-related matters
  • Help ensure compliance with applicable employment standards and company requirements

Payroll

  • Coordinate and administer payroll accurately and on schedule
  • Review payroll information, employee hours, time records, and adjustments
  • Maintain payroll documentation and employee records
  • Work closely with accounting and management to resolve payroll issues
  • Support payroll-related reporting and reconciliation

Operations & Administration

  • Provide hands-on administrative support to local oilfield/shop operations
  • Coordinate customer and vendor setup and administration
  • Process invoices and assist with billing and collections follow-up
  • Track purchase orders and provide procurement support
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable administration
  • Manage employee expenses and reporting
  • Maintain office documentation and records
  • Provide document control and QHSE administrative support
  • Support HR, payroll, accounting, finance, and operations as needed

The Environment

You’ll be supporting a hands-on oilfield services operation, which means no two days are necessarily the same.

You may be working with management on an HR matter in the morning, helping resolve a payroll question, coordinating documentation for a new employee, following up on an invoice, and then working with the shop or operations team to solve an administrative issue.

You need to be comfortable with that.

We’re looking for someone who can move between HR, payroll, accounting administration, and operations without missing a beat.

What We’re Looking For

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 3+ years of experience in HR, payroll, operations administration, or a comparable role
  • Strong experience with payroll and HR administration
  • Experience working in oilfield services, industrial, manufacturing, construction, energy, or another shop/field-based environment is strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting hourly employees, field personnel, and/or shop employees is an asset
  • Strong understanding of employee documentation, onboarding, benefits, and HR compliance
  • Experience with invoicing, purchase orders, vendors, expenses, AP/AR, or general accounting administration
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and payroll information
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a “figure it out” mentality
  • Comfortable working directly with employees, management, vendors, and operational teams
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment

What Makes You a Great Fit?

You might be an HR professional who has grown into payroll and operations.

You might be a payroll specialist who has extensive HR experience.

You might already be working in an oilfield, industrial, manufacturing, or shop environment and have become the person everyone relies on to keep things moving.

Whatever your background, we're looking for someone who is hands-on, dependable, organized, and not afraid to roll up their sleeves.

You are someone who:

✔ Knows HR
✔ Understands payroll
✔ Can navigate an industrial environment
✔ Can communicate with everyone from shop employees to senior management
✔ Can handle confidential and sensitive information
✔ Can juggle multiple priorities
✔ Sees a problem and looks for the solution

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to become an integral part of a growing oilfield services organization where your work directly supports both our employees and our operations.

You won't be limited to one small piece of the business. You'll have the opportunity to make an impact across HR, payroll, administration, and operations while working alongside experienced leaders and operational teams.

If you're looking for a role where every day is different, your expertise is valued, and you can make a real impact, we'd love to meet you.
