Job Title: Fuel Injection System Design & Release Engineer
Job Description
The Fuel Injection System Design & Release Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and release of core engine fuel injection components for one or more major engine families. This role focuses on high-pressure fuel pumps, direct injection rails, high-pressure fuel lines, port injection rails, PFI/GDI fuel injectors, and other fuel system components. You will drive component development, manage engineering changes, support continuous improvement in system performance and fuel economy, and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions. You will collaborate closely with designers and CAE teams, apply structured engineering tools such as DFMEA and DVP&R, and support all phases of product launch from concept through production and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and release of core engine fuel injection components, including high-pressure fuel pumps, direct injection rails, high-pressure fuel lines, port injection rails, and PFI/GDI fuel injectors.
- Manage and direct engineering changes to fuel injection components, ensuring alignment with performance, durability, and cost targets.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance fuel system performance, fuel economy, and overall system robustness.
- Collaborate closely with designers and CAE teams to optimize component and system designs for performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Use DFMEA to identify, assess, and mitigate design risks, and develop robust DVP&R plans to ensure testing coverage meets reliability and validation goals.
- Initiate and manage sourcing packages for new or modified components, working with cross-functional teams during the development phase.
- Plan, lead, and participate in APQP meetings to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of fuel injection components.
- Order, coordinate, and track prototype parts for development, testing, and validation activities.
- Plan, execute, and monitor DV (Design Verification) and PV (Production Validation) testing for fuel injection components and systems.
- Participate in post-test reviews, including detailed failure analysis, root cause identification, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Support all aspects of product launch, including component, system, engine, and vehicle-level testing.
- Participate in manufacturing reviews to ensure designs are feasible, robust, and aligned with production capabilities and quality standards.
- Contribute to the development of service procedures related to fuel injection components to support field service and maintenance.
- Support production launch activities, including issue resolution, change management, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, ensuring milestones, deliverables, and quality targets are met.
- Communicate technical information clearly through presentations, reports, and meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience within the automotive industry.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in fuel injection system component design and release.
- Hands-on experience with the design and development of automotive fuel injection systems or components.
- Ability to perform basic fluid flow rate and sealing pressure calculations.
- Good working knowledge of fluid mechanics.
- Experience using DFMEA to identify and assess design risks.
- Experience developing and executing DVP&R plans for validation and reliability testing.
- Proficiency with basic PC software, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Work Environment
This role offers a remote work arrangement with occasional travel to the United States and other North American facilities for meetings, testing, and collaboration. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering, CAE, manufacturing, and quality teams using modern digital tools such as Siemens NX and standard office software. The position is part of a growing engineering organization that is heavily investing in advanced research and development, particularly in electric and hybrid vehicle technologies. The environment emphasizes long-term career growth, innovation in powertrain and fuel system technologies, and involvement in high-impact programs that support large-scale vehicle production. Travel requirements are typically between 0–20%, mostly local, with occasional trips to facilities in the US.
