Pay Grade H ($33.38 to $35.72 per hour)
Emily Carr University of Art + Design is a school of students, faculty, thinkers and makers unlike any other. The Studio Technician, Shop Support, may provide technical support in multiple Emily Carr shops, to assist students to develop and articulate technical skills in the support of curriculum. The Studio Technician demonstrates to students, staff, and faculty the safe and appropriate use and application of equipment, tools, materials, techniques, and processes, and advises students in solving technical problems.
As the successful applicant, you should possess :
- Two-Year Diploma in studio arts.
- Minimum two years’ direct experience in a comparable technical position in a post-secondary institution.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Sound practical experience with all equipment, materials, and techniques related to wood production and, mold-making practices.
- Digital fabrication experience an asset.
- Experience in organizing and directing the work of others.
- Ability to make independent decisions within policies and guidelines.
- Ability to clearly communicate information and demonstrate the use of equipment to non-technical users in support of an open inclusive learning environment.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
- Physical stamina and mobility to permit lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exercise initiative, creativity, and leadership in order to support the successful operation of the area.
