JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Engineering Manager.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Performance Engineering, the Engineering Manager will oversee a department focused on providing systems engineering, systems health, equipment reliability, technical advice and guidance with regards to ECI (Emergency Coolant Injection)/ NPC (Negative Pressure Containment) Systems within the nuclear station/facility.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide technical leadership for ECI/NPC and HVAC systems. Lead engineering oversight for the Emergency Coolant Injection, Negative Pressure Containment systems, and HVAC systems in a nuclear power plant to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant performance.
  • Maintain system health, reliability, and readiness. Monitor system performance, identify vulnerabilities, manage equipment reliability issues, and ensure assigned safety-related systems remain available and fit for service.
  • Protect the design and licensing basis. Ensure ECI/NPC systems remain aligned with approved design basis, licensing commitments, safety analysis, operating limits, and configuration management requirements.
  • Lead engineering resolution of complex technical issues. Provide direction on troubleshooting, operability assessments, apparent cause/root cause evaluations, corrective actions, and resolution of emergent plant issues.
  • Oversee engineering changes and technical deliverables. Review and approve design modifications, technical evaluations, calculations, specifications, procedures, and other engineering outputs affecting assigned systems.
  • Support operations, maintenance, and outage execution. Partner with station organizations to support surveillance testing, maintenance planning, equipment impairments, return-to-service activities, and outage readiness/execution.
  • Ensure regulatory, quality, and procedural compliance. Maintain compliance with applicable nuclear regulations, codes, standards, quality assurance requirements, internal procedures, and regulator expectations.
  • Lead and develop the ECI/NPC engineering team. Manage priorities, coach and develop staff, build technical capability, and promote nuclear safety culture, conservative decision-making, and continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Nuclear, Electrical, Chemical, Systems Engineering, or another relevant field).
  • Minimum of 4 years of related working experience in nuclear power plant, nuclear facility, or comparable high-reliability, safety-critical industrial environment is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years engineering leadership and people management experience. Proven ability to lead technical teams, manage priorities, develop staff, and deliver engineering results in a complex operating environment.
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety systems, including emergency coolant injection, emergency core cooling, containment systems, containment isolation, HVAC, pumps, valves, piping, instrumentation, controls, and support systems are a strong asset.
  • Experience resolving complex plant technical issues including demonstrated capability in troubleshooting, operability/functionality assessments, root cause analysis, corrective action development, and equipment reliability improvement.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to communicate technical issues clearly, influence cross-functional decisions, prepare high-quality written products, and engage effectively with operations, maintenance, licensing, projects, vendors, and senior leadership.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario

The successful candidate will exhibit uncompromising integrity and commitment to upholding corporate values, and the OPG Code of Business Conduct.

OPG is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible environment. If you require accommodation during the selection process, please contact AODA@opg.com

What makes a career at OPG different?

With operations across Ontario, OPG is one of the most diverse power producers in North America. As the largest generator in Ontario, we meet approximately 50% of the province’s electricity needs, largely from low-carbon sources like nuclear and hydro.

As we work to achieve our vision of Electrifying life in one generation, OPG and our family of companies are also helping advance the development of new low-carbon technologies such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), refurbishment projects, and electrification initiatives to help power the growing demands of a growing economy. Join OPG and make history.

Please submit your application online at https://jobs.opg.com/. OPG thanks all those who apply; however, only candidates considered for an interview will be contacted.

OPG may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools as part of the applicant screening process. However, applications will also be reviewed by a member of our Recruitment team to ensure a fair and thorough assessment.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods. Maintaining a high-performance culture and excellence is a core expectation of every member of our leadership team and is rewarded through the established compensation framework.

OPG is committed to employment equity. As such, we encourage applicants from equity-seeking communities (Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and women). We strongly believe that alleviating the under-representation of equity-seeking individuals will create a stronger OPG team and allow us to better serve the needs of our diverse communities.

In order to fulfill the above-mentioned purpose, priority in hiring may be given to qualified persons who self-identify as a member of equity-seeking groups as identified in the application process. This initiative constitutes a special program under the Human Rights Code/Canadian Human Rights Act.
