Nature and Scope:

This role is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of high-quality fitness programs that align with YMCA standards, while creating innovative initiatives that support member retention and growth. The position ensures a diverse range of fitness offerings for all ages, abilities, and experience levels, while supporting daily fitness operations to maintain consistent program quality and an exceptional member experience. Additionally, it provides leadership to Personal Trainers and Group Fitness volunteers through recruitment, training, scheduling, and ongoing engagement, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment. A strong focus is placed on participant and staff safety by adhering to YMCA protocols, building positive member relationships, resolving concerns, and partnering with the Member Experience Team to enhance satisfaction and retention. The role also works closely with the Centre Manager and Member Experience Team to support branch objectives and contribute to the overall success of the organization.

Major Responsibilities: in this position, you will:

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality fitness programs that meet YMCA standards, providing inclusive and engaging experiences that support the diverse needs of members.
  • Recruit, train, develop, recognize, and support Group Fitness Volunteers to maintain a diverse and comprehensive group fitness schedule.
  • Hire, onboard, supervise, and support Personal Trainers, ensuring the effective delivery of personal training services while driving revenue growth and managing payroll processes.
  • Monitor program participation, member feedback, and performance metrics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and enhanced member engagement.
  • Maintain compliance with YMCA health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring the safety of participants, staff, volunteers, and facility assets.
  • Oversee the fitness floor and equipment maintenance, addressing operational issues, coordinating with Facilities, and recommending equipment upgrades or enhancements as needed.
  • Foster member engagement and retention by partnering with the Member Experience Team to deliver The Y Way, create meaningful member experiences, and effectively resolve member concerns or conflicts.
  • Provide leadership and operational oversight by acting as Duty Staff when required, supporting frontline staff, coordinating personal training operations, ensuring service quality and payroll accuracy, and maintaining strong relationships with fitness volunteers through ongoing communication, recognition, and support.

Qualifications-you bring:

  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience leading diverse teams of staff and volunteers
  • Recommended Post-Secondary Education/training in health/fitness related field (Kinesiology, Personal Training, Group Fitness Instructor Certification)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the Health/ Fitness industry
  • Proven knowledge in the areas of exercise science, nutrition, choreography, and fitness trends
  • Current YMCA Group Fitness Instructor Certification or equivalent an asset
  • YMCA Personal Training Certification or equivalent an asset
  • Experience instructing Group Fitness classes
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C & AED certificate
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
