Summer Student - Digital Computer Operator (Digitization Support)

Contract Position (Summer)

Position Overview

This role supports the digitization of company records by converting physical documents into organized digital formats. The Summer Student will assist with scanning, data entry, file management, and ensuring accurate and secure digital recordkeeping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scan and digitize physical documents into electronic formats (PDF, TIFF, etc.)
  • Organize and manage digital files using systems like Microsoft SharePoint
  • Perform accurate data entry and update company databases
  • Rename, sort, and archive files following company naming conventions
  • Review scanned documents for quality, clarity, and completeness
  • Perform basic image editing (cropping, rotating, enhancing readability)
  • Maintain digital records using tools such as Microsoft Excel
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment or file issues (scanner errors, file formatting problems)
  • Support general administrative tasks such as filing, copying, and document retrieval
  • Digital file organization (on Microsoft Sharepoint)
  • Supporting GIL events such as the Annual Member's Meeting and Annual Agency picnic
  • Assisting with projects & marketing materials
  • Update website with current pictures and information
  • Contribute to social media platforms

Qualifications

  • Working towards a post-secondary diploma or degree in Communications, Social Services, or Administration
  • Previous experience in an administrative setting is an asset
  • Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Be able to follow direction, as well as work independently and take initiative
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint), WordPress knowledge an asset

As per the guidelines of the Government of Canada's Canada Summer Jobs Program, to be eligible, the student must:

  • Be available to work between May to August 2025
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial and territorial legislation and regulations.

This position is government funded and approved for 280 hours; 8 weeks in length and is 35 hours/week (7 hours paid & 1 hour unpaid lunch daily).

Start date: May 11, 2026 (flexible)
