On behalf of our client, we are seeking a highly experienced Senior Engineer, QA & Metering Standards. Reporting directly to the Team Lead, you will be the primary authority for the maintenance, updates, and enforcement of Metering Standards. Your mission is to ensure that all practices in metering, grid interconnections, and DER intake meet every legislative and safety requirement for both current operations and future capital projects.

In this role, you will lead the improvement of the Quality Assurance program, manage the critical relationship with Measurement Canada, and serve as the Technical Lead on the AMI Program, acting as the final point of escalation for all technical hurdles.

Advantages
6 Month Contract with the possibility of extension or permanence
Working with a major utility provider

Responsibilities
1. Distributed Generation & Microgrid (DER)

Govern and maintain the Metering Standard and equipment specifications for grid interconnections.
Review and approve standards for emerging DER technologies (EV charging, batteries, heat pumps).
Partner with Customer Projects to approve metering systems for residential, commercial, and primary metered sites.
Provide technical mentorship and data reporting for the DER team.
2. Standards Development & Regulatory Adherence

Process Governance: Manage existing standards, coordinate stakeholder feedback, and provide final sign-off for enhancements.
Accreditation: Oversee Meter Shop operations to ensure compliance with Measurement Canada’s accreditation program.
Future-Proofing: Define new technologies from vendors and propose the annual metering capital budget.
Industry Liaison: Represent the organization in technical working groups with the AUC, AESO, CEA, and Measurement Canada.
Compliance Monitoring: Track changes in OH&S, CSA, and legislative requirements to ensure internal implementation.
Regulatory Support: Act as the technical point of contact for AESO and AUC Information Requests (IRs) during filing processes.
Field Oversight: Coordinate testing and reporting for substation/POD meters to the AESO and manage deficiencies.
3. Revenue Metering (Customer Facing)

Develop and recommend construction standards for customer site design.
Present technical bulletins to stakeholders and the Electrical Contractors of Alberta.
Provide high-level technical direction to Project Engineers and Managers for multi-tenant and primary customer approvals.
Act as the intake point for external stakeholders, coordinating directly with system planning and protection/controls.
4. Substations & Quality Management

Substation Standards: Maintain internal standards and ensure projects comply with AESO/Measurement Canada requirements.
Field Quality: Inspect field wiring and oversee the meter installation process for transformers and feeders.
QMS Leadership: Continually update the Quality Program to meet federal standards; conduct non-conformance reviews and initiate root cause analysis.
External Support: Provide metering services/quality checks for external utilities.
5. AMI Project Leadership

Support the company’s transformational AMI project as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
Design and oversee an experimental lab for meter technologies.
Optimize installation practices for AMI communication equipment and validate billing data consistency.
Develop quality management test cases and data analytics programs.
