Job description

Our Story & Purpose:

We’re Vancity, a member-owned credit union built on the principles of inclusion and social justice. Since 1946, our relentless commitment to these values has helped us challenge the status quo and break down barriers. We’ve made bold commitments to become net-zero by 2040 across all mortgages and loans, and we’re actively pursuing strategies in Indigenous banking and financial resilience for our members.

As the largest private sector Living Wage Employer in Canada, we’re proud to be consistently recognized as one of the country’s Top Employers. If you’re ready to join our team of 2,300 diverse individuals, access competitive rewards and benefits, and be part of a greater movement - apply today!

Your Role in Supporting Our Members:

As a Senior Economist, you will play a critical role in shaping Vancity’s strategic direction by delivering high-quality economic research and insights. Working closely with the Chief Economist, you’ll analyze complex economic data, build and apply macroeconomic models, and translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations that support decision-making across the organization and inform public conversations on key issues such as affordability, equity, and climate resilience. We are looking for a highly analytical and intellectually curious professional who can combine rigorous economic thinking with strong communication skills to influence both internal and external audiences.

This is a full-time, permanent role based at our Vancity head office and will report directly to the Chief Economist. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Analyzing national and regional economic data to identify key trends, risks, and structural drivers
  • Building, maintaining, and applying macroeconomic models to forecast and interpret key indicators
  • Conducting economic impact, scenario, and sensitivity analyses across policy, sectoral, and regional contexts
  • Translating complex economic data and modelling outputs into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences
  • Supporting the development of economic reports, outlooks, briefings, and publications grounded in the local context
  • Creating presentation decks, speaker notes, and outreach materials for internal and external engagements
  • Collaborating with the Chief Economist to deliver and amplify research and insights across the organization
  • Identifying emerging economic, social, and policy trends and proactively driving independent analysis

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Economics or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in economic analysis, research, or forecasting roles
  • Demonstrated experience building and applying macroeconomic or econometric models
  • Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting large and complex datasets
  • Proven ability to communicate complex economic concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Experience producing economic reports, briefings, and presentations for senior stakeholders
  • Proficiency with statistical and data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python, Stata, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of national and provincial economic conditions, trends, and policy landscape

Extra Skills That Set You Apart: (if required)

  • Experience analyzing issues related to affordability, climate, or social equity
  • Familiarity with financial services or credit union environments
  • Experience contributing to public-facing economic thought leadership

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:

  • Analytical – You apply rigorous economic thinking to uncover insights and inform strategy
  • Communicative – You translate complex data into clear, compelling narratives
  • Curious – You proactively explore emerging trends and ask thoughtful questions
  • Collaborative – You partner effectively with leaders and cross-functional teams
  • Impact-driven – You are motivated to contribute to meaningful social and economic outcomes

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed.

What You’ll Earn:

This role offers a salary range of $96,600 to $125,100 per annum. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

A career at Vancity is more than just a job, you’re joining a tradition of change-makers who are creating lasting change for our communities. Beyond base pay, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package to ensure our employees are empowered to thrive:

  • Living Wage Employer: We’re the largest private-sector Living Wage Employer in Canada and consistently ranked among Canada’s Top Employers.
  • Customizable Benefits: Permanent employees receive flexible benefit packages that can be tailored annually to meet evolving needs.
  • Generous Vacation: New employees start with 3-4 weeks of vacation per year, with additional days earned overtime.
  • Extra Stat Holidays: In addition to BC’s 11 statutory holidays, we offer 2 extra days, plus care days for personal or family illness.
  • Immediate Health Coverage: Health and dental benefits begin on your hire date, with three levels of coverage options.
  • Defined Benefit Pension: Our retirement plan provides a guaranteed income for life, recognizing that retirement looks different for everyone.
