Job description

Overview

Job Skills / Requirements

We are looking for motivated Security Officers to join our team at various sites throughout the Lower Mainland. These are great opportunities for anyone looking to build their career while making a difference in their community! Every day in a Security Officer role will look different, but some typical responsibilities can include:

  • Colleges and Universities: Campus Security Officers at these facilities conduct regular foot patrols, monitor CCTV cameras, provide first aid, manage lost & found, write detailed incident reports, and more!
  • Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities: Healthcare Officers respond to alarms, and emergency requests, while utilizing de-escalation skills in order to ensure the safety of our healthcare workers and visitors.
  • Mobile Division: Swiftly respond to alarms, report security breaches and property damage, and provide leadership in emergency situations, supporting our Operations Centre Team.
  • Office Towers and Government Buildings: Conduct regular patrols of the premises, monitor property entrance, authorize entrance of people, secure exits, respond to alarms and more!
  • Shopping Centres: Perform constant patrols, interact with tenants and the public to provide direction and promote customer service while providing a security presence. You will respond to all emergencies, take the lead role in all incidents involving violent individuals, conduct arrests, enforce mall rules, and remove vagrants from the property.

You're a great fit if you have:

  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written; you will need to write detailed incident reports which may even be utilized in court
  • A valid BC Security Worker License (if you don't already have this license, or the BST certification, please apply to this posting instead: https://joblinkapply.com/joblink/5648/Job/Index/824669/
  • Physical ability to stand and/or patrol for the majority of a shift (8-hours average); your patrols may be indoors or outdoors, in all weather conditions, and can include stairwells, uneven surfaces, and parkades
  • Confidence interacting verbally with team members, client personnel, members of the public, and emergency services
  • Some experience in security would be an asset, but other experience in customer service or volunteering can still help you succeed!
  • Confidence approaching and leading in emergency situations, including trauma, aggression, intoxication, bodily fluids, etc.
  • A keen eye for watching and reporting irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations
  • Basic skills in utilizing technology, including writing reports on a computer, tracking patrols in a smartphone, and communicating via two-way radio
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada

Many of our sites are accessible by transit, but it's an asset if you have your own vehicle and a Class 5 BC Driver's License! It's also a "plus" if you already have other related certifications or clearances, such as Occupational First Aid Level 2 (OFA2), Advanced Security Training (AST), or Marine Transportation Security Clearance (MTSC).
