Job description

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a motivated Project Engineer/Field Engineer to join our client, an established civil contractor with deep community in Squamish. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on project experience, work closely with a P.Eng., and quickly take on increasing responsibility. You’ll be part of a team that values initiative, problem-solving, and seeing projects through from design to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and supervising all phases of civil construction projects
  • Perform material takeoffs, prepare detailed estimates, and submit them for review by senior staff
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to solve design, scheduling, and execution challenges
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and site personnel to ensure smooth project delivery
  • Monitor project progress, quality, and budget adherence, reporting any issues proactively
  • Contribute to safety compliance and maintain high standards for health and safety on site
  • Support bid preparation during slower winter months, including estimating, scope review, and coordination
  • Build strong client relationships by maintaining professional communication and responsiveness

Qualifications
  • University degree in Civil Engineering; EITs encouraged (P.Eng. sign-off available)
  • 1–3 years of relevant field or office experience preferred
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and work from engineering plans and drawings
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam, Excel, and other project management tools
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proactive problem solver with a hands-on approach and willingness to be involved in field operations
  • Valid BC Driver’s License; willingness to travel locally as required
