Be Part of Something Meaningful!

Do you have lived or professional experience working in harm reduction, community wellness, or Indigenous health? Are you passionate about making a difference at the community level by meeting people where they’re at and offering connection and support on their healing journey?. The Squamish Nation’s Yúustway Health & Wellness Department is hiring a Peer Worker who brings lived experience, cultural awareness, and a strong commitment to community-based wellness. • Attend community events and outreach days to distribute supplies and resources (e.g., Naloxone kits).
  • Facilitate and connect Members to harm reduction workshops and other cultural or wellness supports.
  • Engage peers in conversations about what services, education, and supports they need.
  • Collaborate with Members, families (when appropriate), Elder Advisors, interdisciplinary team members, and partners to support wellness goals.
  • Practice from a culturally safe, trauma-informed, and low-barrier approach to service.
  • Maintain confidentiality, complete outreach documentation, and contribute to program development.
  • Provide weekly outreach in both Squamish Valley and North/West Vancouver, connecting with harder-to-reach community Members.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with agencies like FNHA, CMHA, Tsleil-Waututh Nation, and VCH.
  • Support health and wellness events and attend regular team meetings.

What We’re Looking For

  • A combination of education in the related field.
  • Experience working within First Nations communities and an understanding of Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Lived and/or professional experience related to substance use, recovery, or harm reduction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and in community.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; relatable, flexible, reliable, and compassionate.
  • Basic to intermediate comfort with using Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Outlook) and the Internet.
  • Familiarity with wellness programming and support services is an asset.
  • Cultural awareness and deep respect for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw values, language, and traditions
