Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Assets & Utilities Planning, this position provides full professional engineering services to the University of Toronto Scarborough
The incumbent is responsible for providing full professional electrical engineering services for projects undertaken by the Facilities Management Department, the Design and Construction Management, Capital Projects and Utilities Planning.
Projects typically involve oversight, planning and support of major capital projects as well as detailed design of the electrical systems for renovations and additions to existing buildings and utility distributions systems, alterations to offices, classrooms, meeting and conference rooms.
Specialized work includes renovations to laboratories as well as other types of spaces and facilities involving modifications and additions to campus distribution systems, infrastructure systems and other University facilities involving high voltage substations. Modifications and additions to lighting systems, high and low voltage distribution systems, emergency power and lighting systems, fire alarm systems, security systems including CCTV, alarms and electronic locking systems, communication systems including voice, telephone and computer cabling systems and other special services.
Professional services include all aspects of engineering as defined by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) and encompass client liaison, preparation of preliminary feasibility and designs studies, reports and cost estimates, detailed design layouts, value engineering, preparation of technical working drawings and specifications, wiring control diagrams, application of seal to drawings in the electrical discipline, issuing drawings for permit, construction, tendering and performing construction review, and contract administration. The position ensures Ontario Building Code (OBC) compliance on engineering matters, deals with the authorities having jurisdiction and ensures compliance with the University of Toronto Scarborough Design Standards and other applicable standards and codes.
Qualifications:
I. Education:
- University degree in Engineering with license to practice in the Province of Ontario; registered and in good standing with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
II. Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ related experience in design and documentation with demonstrated experience working on institutional and laboratory projects.
III. Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in AutoCad, Excel, MS Word, MS Project.
IV. Other:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal, organizational and management skills.
- Skill in motivating staff and fostering a productive team environment.
- Demonstrated initiative, leadership and strong customer service focus.
- Ability to meet deadlines under conditions of multiple demands and conflicting priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to provide accurate cost estimates.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability complete projects on time and on budget.
