Job descriptionReview and validate singleline diagrams, protection schemes, grounding studies, general arrangements, and equipment specifications (transformers, breakers, GIS / AIS, switchgear, busbars, etc.). Ensure designs comply with IEC, IEEE, ESA, ANSI, and local utility standards. Evaluate vendor proposals. Conduct technical reviews of equipment datasheets, factory acceptance test (FAT) reports, and ensure conformance to project requirements. Manage delivery schedules, logistics, and customs clearance for imported equipment. Provide onsite engineering support during civil works, equipment installation, and cable routing. Conduct regular site inspections, progress meetings, and issue resolution. Verify compliance with safety plans, lockout / tagout procedures, and environmental regulations. Supervise factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) and document results. Prepare asbuilt drawings, operation & maintenance manuals, and hand over to the client / operations team. Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain a risk log. Implement quality assurance processes, conduct audits, and ensure nonconformances are addressed promptly. Produce regular status reports, dashboards, and presentations for senior management and clients. Facilitate coordination between electrical, civil, mechanical, and controlsystems disciplines. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred). 5+years of experience in highvoltage substation design, construction, or commissioning. Experience navigating utility interconnection agreements, permitting processes, and environmental impact assessments, , HONI, IESO, NERC Requirements Experience managing projects of $10M is a plus Strong analytical thinking, problemsolving, and decisionmaking abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple stakeholders Demonstrated ability to use PM tools (MS Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent). PMP or PRINCE2 certification is advantageous Willingness to travel to project sites (up to 3040% of time) Handson experience with SCADA integration and remote monitoring systems is an asset Knowledge of renewableenergy interfacing (solar, wind) with substations is an asset Familiarity with IEC61850 communication protocols and substation automation is an asset Experience with safety standards such as NFPA70E and OSHA regulations is an asset

Black & McDonald's HV Substations team is growing! If you are committed and collaborative professional looking to contribute to a hard-working, innovative team, this opportunity is for you.
The Project Engineer will lead the planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of highvoltage electrical substation projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV (and higher). Working closely with multidisciplinary teams including electrical designers, civil engineers, contractors, and utility partners, the engineer ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role demands strong technical expertise in substation equipment, rigorous adherence to industry codes, and proven projectmanagement skills.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Develop detailed project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and resource plans.
- Create and maintain project execution documents (WBS, Gantt charts, risk registers).
- Coordinate with clients, utilities, and regulatory bodies to secure permits and approvals.
- Coordinate between client, IESO, HONI to ensure SIA, CIA, COVER are understood, incorporated in the design and follow through during construction and commissioning

WHAT YOU'LL OFFER
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
The expected salary range for this role is between $80,000 - $118,000 per year. The starting salary will be determined based on several factors such as the successful candidate's qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Base pay is one component of Black & McDonald's total rewards package. Total rewards vary by position and may include additional offerings such as group insurance benefits, pension plan, annual discretionary bonus, career development programs, and other HR programs.
