Working at Walker

At Walker, your contribution matters. Become part of a team you can count on and where your health and safety are our priority. Our team of more than 1200 people work in environmental waste management and recovery, renewable energy, paving and construction, aggregates, and emulsions chemistries. We are a fifth-generation, family-owned company founded in 1887, operating from our base in the Niagara Region with facilities across Canada and the United States. We care about the environment, each other, and our neighbours, and give back to our communities. Join us on our journey to build a sustainable future, together.

About the Job

Are you passionate about road construction and want to be part of a dynamic, results-driven team? We’re looking for a Construction Estimator who thrives in a fast-paced environment to support the successful delivery of municipal and private sector infrastructure projects.

Reporting to the Manager of Estimating, you’ll be responsible for interpreting tender documents, analyzing market conditions, producing accurate take-offs, and managing awarded projects from estimation to invoice.

Salary range of $75,000 to $85,000 based on experience.

What You’ll Be Doing

Review and interpret tender documents to prepare detailed quotations.

Conduct site visits and collaborate with project teams to scope work and confirm timelines.

Make data-driven recommendations on markups and bid strategies.

Manage the progress of awarded contracts to ensure compliance with project specifications.

Track project costs, prepare client invoices, and review subcontractor invoices.

Analyze completed jobs to identify variances between estimated and actual costs.

Procure materials and coordinate delivery to job sites.

Ensure all legal, safety, and municipal documentation (e.g., traffic control plans, insurance, bonds) is in place.

Solicit and evaluate subcontractor quotes for inclusion in bids.

Prepare and submit pricing for extra work as needed.

Here’s What You Need

High school diploma (or equivalent) plus a 3-year Civil Engineering Technology (CET) diploma.

WHMIS Certification.

Valid Ontario G-Class Driver’s Licence (in good standing).

5-7 years of hands‑on estimating and project coordination experience in the construction or road‑building sector.

Strong numerical and estimating skills with a keen eye for detail.

Comfortable reading blueprints, technical drawings, and project specs.

Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); estimating software knowledge is an asset.

Solid multitasking and time‑management abilities — able to manage multiple jobs simultaneously.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear, professional documentation.

Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions.

Professionalism, tact, and discretion when engaging with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.

What’s in it for you

You become part of a team you can count on

A comprehensive total rewards package and benefits to support your wellbeing

Leaders who support your growth and success

A workplace that provides the best health & safety practices in industry

Give back to your community with two paid volunteer days annually and opportunities to become involved in events

Ready to Build the Roads of Tomorrow?

Apply now and help us pave the way to better infrastructure.

At Walker, your contribution matters. If you share our commitment to giving back to your community and caring about the environment we’d love to hear from you. Our workplaces strive to reflect the diversity of the communities in which we operate. We welcome applications from qualified candidates of all ethnicities, race, religions, gender identities and expression, Indigenous communities, and persons with disabilities.

Should you require any accommodation in applying for this role, or throughout the interview process, please let us know when contacted and we will work with you to meet your needs. We thank all applicants for their interest, however, only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.
