Job description

YVR is a place of connection, bringing together people, places and cargo while ensuring a safe and efficient experience for everyone. Apron Management Service plays a vital role in delivering safe, efficient, and seamlessly coordinated airside operations. This team will define how aircraft movements, safety, and real time coordination come together in a fast paced, high stakes environment.

Position overview

Do you thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑impact environment where every decision matters? We’re offering an exciting opportunity for a full‑time, permanent Unit Operations Specialist to join our new Apron Management team. In this pivotal role, you’ll help shape a brand‑new service by developing, evaluating, and maintaining the plans and procedures that drive daily apron operations.

You’ll also lead the creation and delivery of both ab‑initio and recurrent training, ensuring every team member is equipped with the skills and confidence to perform at their best.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver operational training for all Apron Control Unit staff, including ab initio training, recurrent and refresher training
  • Develop, evaluate and maintain all Apron Control Unit operating plans, procedures, and standards
  • Maintain operational proficiency in all Apron Controller working positions
  • Monitor and report on service delivery performance - including oversight of the Quality Assurance Program
  • Coordinate and negotiate inter-unit agreements with internal work teams and external organizations

Key Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in working in a safety-sensitive, operational environment, supplemented by completion of a two-year program or diploma in Airport Operations;
  • Apron Management Service, Air Traffic Control, Flight Service / Dispatch or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Aviation expertise –aircraft operating characteristics, air traffic management, aerodrome standards, safety management systems, and airfield layout (YVR)
  • Experience in writing plans, procedures, and reports (technical writing), and developing and delivering training programs
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a fast paced, safety critical environment
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Valid BC Driver’s License to obtain an Airside Vehicle Operator Permit

All successful candidates will be subject to a satisfactory completion of an Apron Control medical assessment by a certified aviation medical examiner, including drug and alcohol testing, prior to an offer of employment.

Although not required, French language skills are an asset as we are committed to providing bilingual services to our visitors and passengers. This helps us meet federal language obligations while ensuring a welcoming experience. Candidates who do not speak French are still strongly encouraged to apply.

Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.

Salary Range : $92,515 to $120,910 per annum, based on 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

At YVR, your work experience goes beyond the paycheck. We support your personal and professional development, well-being, and a thriving work culture with generous vacation days, extensive health benefits, retirement savings matching, wellness programs, community engagement, commuting support, and continuous learning opportunities.
