Job description

Position Overview

Based at Selkirk Mental Health Centre (SMHC), an inpatient facility which provides specialized mental health assessment and rehabilitation services. The Forensic Psychologist joins a dynamic, multidisciplinary Forensic Services team working with approximately a 30-bed base across secure and open units. Selkirk Mental Health Centre is only a short drive from Winnipeg’s perimeter and is located on a park-like campus.

Reporting to the Clinical Psychologist Site Lead, the Forensic Psychologist provides assessment and treatment for patients found Not Criminally Responsible on account of mental disorder (NCR) and Unfit to Stand Trial who are under the jurisdiction of Manitoba's Criminal Code Review Board (CCRB). This includes violence risk assessments and annual updates for CCRB disposition hearings. The Psychologist provides consultation to the multidisciplinary team, to the inpatient staff, and provides individual and group-based treatment for mental health concerns and risk management, with opportunity for clinical programming development. The forensic psychologist is networked professionally with forensic psychologists at other sites in the Forensic Program. Clinical supervision is required until licensed for independent practice.

The position offers a competitive salary, benefits, and incentives, including an annual forensic specialist top-up (up to $60K), a comprehensive pension and benefits package, relocation support, professional license fee reimbursement, and ongoing professional development.

Experience

  • Education, training and experience in diagnostic evaluation and cognitive assessment with adults, including the administration and interpretation of standard psychological tests and measures.
  • Education, training and experience in clinical forensic psychology, including specific training in forensic psychological assessment during residency or postdoctoral years.
  • Education, training and experience with evidence-based psychological treatments for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, individual and group.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • A Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from a CPA or APA-accredited clinical psychology training program, and completion of a CPA or APA accredited internship/residency.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Psychologist (C.Psych.) with the Psychological Association of Manitoba with forensic competency. Supervision is provided for individuals at the C. Psych. Candidate level until fully registered, with subsequent consultation support.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and inter-professional teamwork skills.
