Job Title: Food Production WorkerJob DescriptionThe Food Production Worker supports daily manufacturing operations by safely and efficiently producing high-quality food products in accordance with company standards, food safety regulations, and WorkSafeBC requirements. This role involves operating production equipment, handling food products such as chicken, beef, and pork, maintaining strict sanitation standards, and contributing to continuous improvement, waste reduction, and efficiency initiatives in a fast-paced production environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of production tasks such as mixing, assembling, cooking, packaging, labeling, and palletizing food products.
- Work primarily in the forming or packaging/boxing areas, while supporting prep and cooking activities as needed.
- Operate and monitor production machinery and equipment in a safe, efficient, and consistent manner.
- Follow production schedules, recipes, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent product quality.
- Meet or exceed productivity, quality, and yield targets as defined by the production plan.
- Comply with all food safety programs, including HACCP, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and sanitation procedures.
- Perform regular quality checks on products and materials and promptly report any deviations, defects, or concerns.
- Maintain accurate and legible production and quality records to ensure traceability and compliance.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and traceability of ingredients, work-in-progress, and finished products.
- Follow all WorkSafeBC requirements and company health and safety policies at all times.
- Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the shift as directed.
- Immediately report safety hazards, near misses, and incidents to the appropriate personnel.
- Participate actively in safety training sessions and toolbox meetings.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including equipment, tools, and surrounding production spaces.
- Perform cleaning and sanitation tasks as assigned to support allergen control and prevent cross-contamination.
- Support allergen control programs by following proper cleaning, handling, and segregation procedures.
- Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to achieve production and quality goals.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including waste reduction and process efficiency improvements.
- Assist with the training and onboarding of new employees as required, sharing knowledge of procedures and best practices.
Essential Skills- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English accurately and consistently.
- Strong attention to detail and a clear commitment to producing high-quality products.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, repetitive production environment.
- Basic math and record-keeping skills to complete production and quality documentation.
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift approximately 25–50 pounds (with or without accommodation) repeatedly during the shift.
- Ability to work in a cooled or cold environment, around 4 degrees Celsius, as required.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks safely and efficiently over the course of the shift.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including safety footwear, for the entire shift.
- Comfort working with chicken, beef, and pork products in a food manufacturing environment.
- Reliability and flexibility to work varying shift times, including potential evenings and weekends.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in food manufacturing, production, warehouse, or kitchen prep environments is an asset.
- Experience with food prep, kitchen prep, or food manufacturing processes is beneficial.
- Familiarity with HACCP, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and working in a GMP-regulated environment is an advantage.
- Ability to adapt to changing production priorities and support multiple areas such as prep, cooking, forming, and packaging.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training related to food safety, quality, and workplace safety.

Work Environment
This role is based in a food manufacturing facility with four main areas: prep, cooking, forming, and packaging/boxing, with temporary workers typically assigned to forming or boxing. The work environment includes exposure to food ingredients and temperature-controlled areas, with cooled spaces around 4 degrees Celsius. Shifts are generally 8 hours in length, with start times typically between 7:00 . and 9:00 ., and may require flexibility to move to afternoon, evening, or weekend shifts based on operational needs. Work may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays, and overtime may be required during busy periods. The facility uses production equipment and machinery, and employees must wear PPE at all times; steel-toe footwear is required, while other PPE is provided. Employees should bring a lock for day-use lockers. The team currently consists of several dozen staff members, creating a busy yet supportive production environment focused on safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
