Position Overview

The Senior Procurement Specialist facilitates and executes procurement processes within FortisBC which include but is not limited to sourcing, relationship management, contract negotiation, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sourcing plans within established frameworks to meet the company’s procurement needs.
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, conduct supplier assessments, and facilitate supplier selection processes.
  • Evaluate proposal / quotations, negotiate contracts (e.g. pricing, terms & conditions, etc.) to achieve cost savings and ensure value.
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. suppliers, clients, etc.)
  • Monitor supplier performance and compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Respond to inquiries and address issues promptly and effectively.
  • Draft, review, and administer contracts to ensure compliance to requirements (e.g. legal, regulatory, etc.)
  • Ensure that contracts are executed in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of procurement activities.
  • Ensure procurement activities adhere to industry standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and address identified areas of exposure through follow-up with the appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Stay informed of market trends and changes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in procurement.
  • Support implementation of departmental initiatives to enhance procurement efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service quality.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to others fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.
  • Perform duties of a minor nature related to the above duties, which do not affect the rating of the job.

Requirements

  • Education :  Successful completion of Diploma in Business, Supply Chain Management, Economics or a related field from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Experience :  Minimum of seven (7) years of recent and related procurement experience.
  • A recognized supply chain management designation such as SCMP, CSCL, CSCP, or CPSM.
  • Knowledge of markets and Supply Chain Management best practices and trends.
  • Ability to develop sourcing plan and perform procurement of a complex nature that requires knowledge of and experience with Canadian procurement law, analyzing costs & risks, preparing requests for proposal / quotation, evaluating bids and negotiating contracts.
  • Strong working knowledge of procurement procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of materials resource planning and forecasting would be an asset.
  • Sound analytical, organization, written and verbal communication skills including the ability to;
  • communicate effectively with internal clients and suppliers.

  • prepare / revise quotation requests and addenda; and,
  • negotiate effectively with vendors.
  • Knowledge of invoicing and basic accounting practices and terminology.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems operations, environment and peripherals.
  • Sound working knowledge of SAP MM module in an integrated environment would be an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products as well as Sharepoint, Outlook, Visio and Teams.
