Job description

Your Opportunity:

The Licensed Practical (LPN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centered care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with the UAH and AHS policy and procedures. The 3D3 Plastic and General Surgery unit is responsible for providing staffing to 9 18+ bed units consisting of Plastic/Reconstructive and General Surgery patients. We strive to provide quality care to patients received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care unit and directly from home and/or surgery clinics in addition to caring for patients received from other departments within the hospital from time to time. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment. The RN is expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives; supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the surgery program.

Description:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Current IV therapy, Pre-op/Post-op care protocols, Central line/PICC care, Ostomy care, basic surgical wound/drain care, complex wound care and negative pressure wounds (VAC dressing), NG tube insertion and management. Strong patient teaching skills. Note: Rotation subject to change.
