Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Controller will play a critical role in ensuring the financial health and operational efficiency of the school. The Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate records, overseeing financial reporting and forecasting, and supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization. This position will interact with all departments, support key operational systems, and contribute to strategic initiatives through financial and operational insight.
This is a new full-time position and is based at our Viewmount Branch, located at 2760 Viewmount Drive, Toronto, ON.
The salary range for this position is $110,000 – $140,000.
Key Responsibilities
Record Keeping and Profits and Loss Oversight
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all school operations
- Prepare and review profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and other financial statements
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and relevant regulations
- Support audit processes and provide necessary documentation to external auditors
Monthly Accounting and Forecasting
- Lead month-end and year-end accounting processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
- Monitor financial performance, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to school leadership
- Develop and maintain financial forecasts, budgets, and scenario analyses
- Collaborate with school leaders to align operational plans with financial objectives
Operational Systems and Reporting
- Oversee key systems supporting the school’s operations and financial processes
- Drive software enhancements and continuous improvements to streamline reporting and operations
- Track and report on non-financial indicators relevant to school performance and efficiency
- Serve as a point of contact for finance-related inquiries across the organization
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (CPA designation preferred)
- Proven experience in accounting, financial reporting and forecasting in a complex organization
- Strong knowledge of financial software; experience leading system enhancements is an asset
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities independently
- Excellent communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated, independent thinker with the ability to work across departments and levels of the organization
- Strong analytical skills and experience presenting financial and operational data to senior leadership and Board committees
