Position Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Adyen Payment Integration Architect / Lead to design, implement, and manage the integration of the Adyen payment platform within our enterprise ecosystem. This role will be responsible for defining API exposure strategies, selecting appropriate integration methodologies, and building a resilient, scalable, and secure payment infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in payment systems, API architecture, and enterprise integration patterns, with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and compliance.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
Adyen Platform Integration
. Lead end-to-end integration of Adyen payment solutions across digital and physical channels.
. Identify and implement relevant Adyen APIs (e.g., Payments, Checkout, Recurring, Webhooks, Disputes, Reporting).
. Define API exposure strategies (internal vs external, gateway vs direct integration).
. Ensure proper handling of payment flows including authorization, capture, refund, and reconciliation.
Architecture & Design
. Design scalable and resilient payment architecture aligned with enterprise standards.
. Define integration patterns (e.g., synchronous vs asynchronous, event-driven architecture).
. Establish fault-tolerant systems with retry mechanisms, circuit breakers, and failover strategies.
. Create high-availability solutions with minimal downtime and strong disaster recovery planning.
API Strategy & Management
. Determine which APIs should be exposed to internal teams, partners, or customer-facing applications.
. Design and document API contracts, schemas, and security models.
. Implement API governance using gateways, throttling, and monitoring tools.
. Ensure backward compatibility and versioning strategies.
Resilience & Reliability Engineering
. Build a robust ecosystem with observability (logging, monitoring, tracing).
. Design for failure scenarios including network issues, payment provider outages, and partial transaction failures.
. Implement idempotency and reconciliation mechanisms.
. Ensure system performance under high transaction volumes.
Security & Compliance
. Ensure compliance with PCI-DSS and other regulatory requirements.
. Implement secure authentication and authorization (OAuth, mTLS, API keys).
. Safeguard sensitive payment data and ensure proper encryption practices.
Stakeholder Collaboration
. Work with product, engineering, finance, and risk teams to align payment capabilities with business needs.
. Collaborate with Adyen technical teams and external partners as needed.
. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
. 7+ years of experience in payment systems, fintech, or enterprise integration.
. Proven experience integrating payment gateways, preferably Adyen.
. Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, webhooks, and microservices architecture.
. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
. Deep knowledge of distributed systems and resilience patterns.
. Familiarity with security standards (PCI-DSS, tokenization, encryption).
Preferred Qualifications
. Experience with event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
. Knowledge of global payment methods and regulatory environments.
. Experience with API management platforms (Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, etc.).
. Background in high-volume transactional systems.

The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications.
