Our client is a growing, Toronto‑based boutique law firm specializing in personal injury and medical malpractice litigation across Ontario. The firm is well regarded for its client‑centred advocacy, high‑quality legal work, and collaborative culture. Operating on a contingency‑fee model, the firm advances significant case costs and managesplex files, requiring disciplined financial planning and strong cash flow oversight. With approximately 28 employees and four Partners, the firm offers a close‑knit, professional environment with long‑tenured staff and a strong reputation in the legalmunity. The office is located in downtown Toronto and the firm is ready to hire as it continues to grow.
Your New Role As Controller, in this newly created role, you will be the firm’s day‑to‑day finance lead and a trusted strategic partner to the Managing Partner and Senior Partners. You will own the full accounting and finance function, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, financial reporting,pliance, and people leadership. This is a hands‑on role with direct responsibility for PCLaw and law‑firm‑specific requirements, including LSO trust accounting. You will deepen the firm’s financial planning cadence through annual budgeting and rolling forecasts, build forward‑looking cash flow models tied to the case pipeline, and deliver timely reporting and insights to support growth,pensation planning, and investment decisions. You will also lead and mentor a small accounting team (two direct reports), strengthen internal controls, and continuously improve tools, processes, and reporting.
What You’ll Need to Succeed To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong mix of technical expertise, leadership capability, andmercial mindset, including:
  • 8–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 5+ years in people leadership
  • Proven expertise with PCLaw and strong knowledge of LSO trust accounting in a law‑firm environment
  • Experience in a small to mid‑sized organization (approximately up to 50 employees) with hands‑on ownership
  • CPA designation strongly preferred (or equivalent technical depth)
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
  • Strongmunication skills and confidence partnering with senior leadership
  • A personable, driven, and proactive approach with the ability to offer practical business rmendations
Experience with contingency‑fee practices, case‑cost and disbursement modelling, ADP payroll, benefits administration, LawPro reporting, or finance‑tool implementations is considered an asset.
