What you'll do

Maintenance Planning and Scheduling

  • Develop detailed maintenance job plans for mill equipment, including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation tasks.
  • Define scope of work, labor requirements, tools, materials, permits, and estimated durations for planned jobs.
  • Build and maintain weekly and shutdown maintenance schedules in coordination with Operations and Maintenance Supervisors.
  • Prioritize work orders based on safety, production impact, asset criticality, and regulatory requirements.
  • May be required to support maintenance planning during outages, shutdowns, or extended maintenance windows.

Work Order Management

  • Review and validate work requests to ensure completeness and accuracy before planning.
  • Ensure work orders include clear task descriptions, safety precautions, lockout/tagout requirements, and quality standards.
  • Close completed work orders with accurate labor, material, and failure data to support reliability analysis.
  • Coordination and Communication
  • Act as the primary liaison between Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and Stores for equipment maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate planned outages, shutdowns, and maintenance windows to align with production requirements.
  • Communicate schedule changes, job readiness, and execution risks to stakeholders.

Materials and Resource Planning

  • Identify and pre-stage required spare parts, consumables, and special tools prior to job execution.
  • Work with the Storeroom and Procurement teams to ensure critical spares availability.
  • Support optimization of spare parts inventory for critical equipment and systems.

Reliability and Continuous Improvement

  • Support reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), preventive maintenance (PM), and predictive maintenance (PdM) programs.
  • Analyze maintenance history and downtime data to identify recurring issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in root cause failure analyses (RCFA) related to equipment failures.
  • Standardize job plans and maintenance procedures to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability.

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure all planned work complies with mill safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, confined space requirements, and environmental regulations.
  • Incorporate safety, quality, and regulatory requirements into all job plans.
  • Support audits, inspections, and compliance activities as required.

Experience

  • Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Maintenance, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant maintenance planning experience may be considered.
  • 3–7 years of maintenance experience in a pulp and paper mill or other heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience planning maintenance for rotating equipment, process systems, and plant utilities preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Planner, Maintenance Supervisor, or Reliability role is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance practices for industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency with CMMS/EAM systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo, JD Edwards, Infor).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, electrical schematics, and OEM manuals.
  • Working knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a unionized and/or multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on safety, quality, and asset reliability.
