Job description

Not interested in spending your entire career behind a desk? Neither are we.

At Teletek Structures, one day you might be working with an Electrical Engineer on a power or grounding design. The next, you could be on a telecommunications site troubleshooting a problem, inspecting equipment or climbing a tower as part of our field team.

This is a role for someone who wants to see the things they work on.

You’ll combine your electrical knowledge with hands-on field experience, working on the infrastructure that keeps people connected. You’ll get exposure to telecommunications sites, electrical systems, utility coordination, backup power and emerging areas such as EV charging — from the initial site investigation through drawings, design support and construction.

And yes, there will be towers.

What You’ll Do

You’ll work with Teletek’s engineering and field teams, as well as our third-party Electrical Engineer, supporting projects in the office and in the field.

On the electrical side, you’ll:

  • Investigate existing electrical systems and site conditions.
  • Prepare and revise electrical drawings and details using AutoCAD.
  • Support power distribution, grounding and bonding, cable/conduit routing and equipment layouts.
  • Gather the field information needed to complete electrical designs.
  • Determine how to power telecommunications equipment from new or existing electrical distribution equipment and infrastructure.
  • Work with utility companies on electrical service information and applications.
  • Help identify and troubleshoot differences between the design, existing site conditions and what is actually happening in the field.
  • Support telecommunications power, backup power, EV charging and other infrastructure projects as our electrical services grow.
  • Work directly with clients, property owners/landlords, contractors and utilities while on site to help determine practical electrical service and cable/conduit routing.

On the field side, you’ll:

  • Travel to telecommunications sites throughout Ontario and occasionally elsewhere in Canada.
  • Inspect towers, rooftops and related infrastructure.
  • Take measurements, photographs and detailed field notes.
  • Work outdoors in everything Canadian weather decides to throw at us.
  • Climb telecommunications structures.
  • Train and participate as part of our climbing and rescue team.
  • Work alongside Engineers and Field Inspectors to figure out what's actually happening on site — not just what the drawings say.

This is not a 40-hour-a-week desk job.

Who We're Looking For

You may be an Electrical Engineering Technician or Technologist. You might also have strong practical electrical trade experience and be looking for something different.

More important to us is that you have a solid electrical foundation, take safety seriously, like solving problems and are interested in getting out into the field.

You should have:

  • A diploma in Electrical Engineering Technician, Electrical Engineering Technology or a related electrical discipline, or equivalent electrical trade training and relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of the electrical safety code.
  • Good knowledge of electrical safety.
  • An understanding of electrical distribution, grounding and bonding, cable/conduit routing and electrical equipment.
  • The ability to read and interpret drawings and technical information.
  • A valid driver's licence.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • A willingness and ability to travel, work outdoors and work at heights.
  • Curiosity, resourcefulness and a willingness to learn.

Experience with AutoCAD, telecommunications, utilities, construction, backup power systems or EV charging is an asset — but we don't expect you to arrive knowing everything.

If you don't already have tower climbing and rescue training, we can provide it.

Why Teletek?

For more than 20 years, Teletek Structures has worked on telecommunications infrastructure across Canada and the U.S.

We're a small engineering company, and that's part of what makes this role different.

You won't spend your first few years doing one tiny piece of the same project over and over. You'll work with Engineers, EITs, Detailers and Field Inspectors. You'll see what gets designed, go into the field and see how it actually gets built, encounter things nobody expected, and help the team figure out what to do next.

Some days you'll be in AutoCAD.

Some days you'll be in a meeting with an Engineer.

Some days your office will have a very, very good view.

Working at Teletek

Our St. Jacobs office is home base, and this is a full-time permanent position combining office and field work.

We offer vacation, sick days, benefits, training and professional development. More importantly, you'll have an opportunity to develop a pretty unusual combination of electrical, telecommunications and field experience.

Our values are Innovation, Integrity, Value Growth, Equilibrium, Nimble, Team Resourcefulness and Respect.

We look for people who ask questions, bring ideas forward, take ownership of their work, look out for their teammates and want to keep learning.

Ready for Something Different?

If you want to build your electrical career and actually get out and see where the work takes you, we'd like to hear from you.

We value diversity and inclusion and encourage all qualified candidates to apply. Accommodation is available throughout the recruitment process upon request.
