Job Description:
Network Security Engineer (Firewall & Infrastructure)
Location: British Columbia (Remote with 1 day/week onsite)
Contract Length: 12 months
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Network Security Engineer to support infrastructure and security initiatives within a large, complex enterprise environment. This role will focus on implementing, modifying, and troubleshooting firewall and network security configurations in support of critical IT projects.
The position is primarily remote, with the ability to attend an office in British Columbia one day per week as required. Candidates must be based in BC.
Responsibilities
- Implement, modify, and support firewall, proxy, and IDS/IPS rules in production environments
- Analyze and troubleshoot existing firewall and security rules to resolve operational and project-related issues
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to troubleshoot network security challenges
- Support firewall zoning and network segmentation activities
- Update technical documentation and contribute to production change requests related to firewall and network security changes
- Work across multiple concurrent projects while maintaining strong attention to detail
Required Skills & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (degree or technical diploma), or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of recent experience implementing and supporting firewall rules in large, complex enterprise environments with multiple data centres
- Strong understanding of networking and firewalling principles, including segmentation and zoning
- Hands-on experience with enterprise firewall platforms such as Fortinet, Palo Alto, and/or Cisco
- Working knowledge of F5 LTM and proxy technologies (, Microsoft ISA/TMG)
- Experience supporting Active Directory and DNS in secure network environments
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Nice to Have
- CCNA or equivalent certification
- Experience working in regulated or highly secure enterprise environments
