Lethbridge School Division, Facility Services Department is accepting applications for two Student Labourer Placements. This position has an expected start date as early as May 4, 2026 with the summer employment position ending August 28, 2026. The student labourer placement requires the employee to work outside in various weather conditions for extended periods of time. The student labourer placement must comply with all safe works practices, policies, and processes in a labour intensive role. Lethbridge School Division embraces diversity and functions in a dynamic, innovative and fast paced environment. The successful applicant will report to the Director of Facility Services or designate.
The duties would include but are not limited to:
- Load and unload trucks independently up to 22 kg
- Load and unload trucks with assistance medium (22 kg) to heavy (31.5 kg)
- Moving and cartage of equipment, furniture and supplies (ongoing throughout the year)
- Transporting, delivering, collecting mail, other printed materials and supplies to Lethbridge School Division departments and facilities as required
- Moving and cartage of equipment, furniture and supplies
- Make necessary repairs to asphalt surface in parking lots and play court areas
- Service, observe, and report defective/damaged gas powered and electric hand operated equipment to be repaired or decommissioned
- Minor maintenance of fleet vehicles, tractors, skid steer loaders, and snow blowers
- Maintenance of grounds by lawn mowing, edging, power raking, aerating, weed spraying, weed trimming and fertilizing
- Prune lower level trees and shrubbery
- Spray application of insecticide and pesticides
- Operation of underground sprinkler systems
- Maintain fencing systems such as wood, chain link, and woven metal fabric
- Seasonal installation and removal of snow fence
- Paint athletic game lines in fields and to hard surface markings including stairs and courtyards
- Observe and report defective/damaged physical education equipment to be repaired or decommissioned
- Assist other Facilities Services personnel as required
- Operation of equipment such as three ton pump truck, zero turn lawn mowers, truck and trailer towing, as well as various other landscape power and hand tools
What will you work?
The successful candidates will work 40 hours/week Monday through Friday.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
- Enrolled in Post Secondary Education
- Proof of Grade 12 or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) as issued by an accredited Canadian Province
- If you have obtained your education outside of Canada, the Division requires a copy of your Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) or International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) confirming completion of high school equivalencies
- Hold and maintain a valid 5th Class Alberta Driver's Licence
- Satisfactory Dirvers Abstract
- Ability to operate a vehicle with trailer
- Thorough knowledge of the applicable rules and regulations of safe driving
FITNESS AND ABILITIES
- Sufficient sight and hearing to perform related job duties
- Able to stand or walk for extended periods
- Able to lift and carry up to 22 kg independently and 22-31.5 kg with assistance
- Able to climb and work from 5 metre ladders
- Able to work in a highly active physical environment
- Able to work with a variety of chemicals
- Must be physically capable of performing heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
- The successful candidate must be a team player, safety focused and a responsible individual who takes pride in their work
- Proven public relations skills and demonstrated ability in promoting and maintaining effective working relations with public, students, co-workers, school staff, administration, and division officials
- Demonstrated ability of being a division representative
- Candidates must be team players with Maintenance, Caretakers and school staff
- Excellent communication skills both in written and oral formats
- Demonstrated ability to keep records and fill out required division forms and paper work. Computer literacy could be an asset in this area
ASSETS
- Experience sufficient to permit effective communications and related technical knowledge
- Hold and maintain a valid 3rd Class Alberta Drivers Licence
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- Valid WHIMIS Certificate
- Confined Space Entry and Rescue Training
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training
- Skid Steer Operator Training
- Pesticide Applicator Certification
- Considerable knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the safe and proper practices for completing work

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School
Division who are offered employment must provide:
- A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
- A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
- Proof of photo identification in the form of a valid 5th class Alberta Driver's Licence. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
- A satisfactory Drivers Abstract
- Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
Benefits
The wage for this position is $24.39/hour.
