In Ontario, you must be certified by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) to teach in the province’s publicly funded schools.

The Waterloo Region District School Board is seeking applications from the following candidates for our Elementary Occasional Teacher Roster (JK-8) :

  • Teachers in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) who are able to provide evidence of meaningful experiences working with adolescents and / or youth. These experiences may include paid, volunteer, and practicum experiences. Appointments will be effective upon receipt of OCT certification confirmation and required documentation from successful candidates.
  • Current Year 2 Faculty of Education students scheduled to graduate in Spring / Summer 2026. Conditional offers to be placed on the Elementary Occasional Teacher Roster will be made to successful applicants until such time as OCT qualifications and certification are confirmed.

If you are an existing Elementary Occasional Teacher with the WRDSB you DO NOT need to apply to this posting. Current WRDSB Secondary Occasional Teachers wishing to transfer to the Elementary Occasional Teacher Roster may apply, however if successful you will be removed from the WRDSB Secondary Occasional Teacher Roster.

Required Qualifications

It is preferred that candidates have the following qualifications : Primary / Junior or Junior / Intermediate. Candidates with only Intermediate qualification or Intermediate / Senior qualifications will be eligible to apply and interview for the position. If successful, these candidates will be offered a spot on the OT Roster after providing evidence of registration in a course to complete Junior divisional qualifications.
