Job description

Who are we?

Svante is a rapidly growing clean energy technology company making commercial-scale carbon capture and removal a reality and enabling global industries to play offense in the fight against climate change that will accelerate the global transition to a lower-carbon economy.

The growing success of our company is owed to our commitment to our people, our emphasis on our values, and our innovative technology. Passion is put into what we do every day.

Purpose of the Role

As the Head of Engineering & Construction, you will lead the owner’s engineering and construction function for Svante Development Inc. (“DevCo”), ensuring the successful technical design and delivery of major carbon‑capture capital projects. You will oversee project execution across pre‑FEED, FEED, detailed engineering, and EPC(M) stages, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining full technical integrity.

You will establish engineering and construction procedures, work closely with a small internal team and external service providers, and act as DevCo’s representative with engineering firms, equipment vendors, construction companies, project partners, and the Svante Solutions business unit. You will play a key role in bridging commercial and technical considerations, particularly for first‑of‑a‑kind deployments of Svante’s carbon‑capture technologies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • You have + years of engineering and construction experience in project‑based industries such as carbon capture, renewable energy, oil & gas, or large industrial capital projects.
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or related engineering (or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience).
  • You bring strong experience across pre‑FEED, FEED, detailed engineering, and EPC(M) delivery, including working with Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) models.
  • You have strong commercial acumen with proven ability to navigate capital budgeting, contracting strategies, risk management, and complex negotiations.
  • You have excellent communication skills and experience engaging customers, vendors, regulators, investors, host communities, and Indigenous communities.
  • You are able to set priorities, lead in dynamic environments, and make decisions in complex or ambiguous situations.
  • You have strong organizational, leadership, and stakeholder‑management abilities.
  • You are able to travel up to % for sites, service providers, and periodic visits to Svante’s Burnaby HQ.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • You successfully represent DevCo as the owner across all engineering and construction phases—pre‑FEED through commissioning—ensuring alignment with project goals and commercial frameworks.
  • You oversee engineering and construction activities with strong quality control, delivering multi‑million‑dollar capital projects safely, on time, and on budget.
  • You develop and execute EPC(M) contracting strategies based on an IPD approach, balancing risks, rewards, and performance guarantees.
  • You constructively challenge EPC and vendor proposals and provide solutions to optimize cost, schedule, and performance.
  • You ensure seamless integration between engineering design, procurement, and construction execution.
  • You maintain full compliance with permitting, QA/QC, and international codes and standards.
  • You collaborate closely with project partners, investors, regulators, host communities, and Indigenous communities, providing trusted technical guidance.
  • You contribute to DevCo’s strategic planning and help build the structure, culture, and processes needed for successful project execution.
  • You drive best practices in safety, risk management, and operational readiness throughout project lifecycles.
