The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director Technical Services the Electrical Engineer Strategic Infrastructure Division (SID) be a key member of the Build NS Team. This position provides guidance and strategy though all project phases including design construction and commissioning of electrical systems with a primary focus on healthcare projects of varying scopes and delivery methods.
The Electrical Engineers responsibilities include development of user requirements; collaboration with specialized user groups internal and external partners and team members; as well as scoping and design of efficient systems that maximize energy efficiency comfort user and staff safety enhance asset longevity and ensure optimal return on projects.

Responsibilities
Review programs user group needs schematics drawings specifications and contract documents to ensure conformance with project requirements codes and industry standards.
Evaluate and quantify the impact of changes on project outcomes.
Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to the Project Delivery Team.
Identify opportunities to enhance healthcare project delivery and facility operations by recommending improved methods and system changes.
Act as an electrical engineer subject matter expert for multiple healthcare projects.
Read and understand contract documents. Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
Manage and support project team including direct reports and others as needed.
Help drive healthcare environmental health and safety programs at the project level with a sustainable and safety-oriented approach to work.
Support the Project Delivery Team through all phases of projects including planning design tender construction commissioning and closeout of large and complex healthcare projects. Project delivery can be through various methods including Public-Private Partnerships (P3s) Design Bid Build (DBB) Construction Management (CM) or Design Build (DB) by assisting in establishment design and delivery of electrical requirements.
What youll need
Qualifications
A Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university (e.g. ABET in the US CEAB in Canada)
Must be a Professional Engineer with a minimum of 8 years experience in the building design and construction industry. Licensed (in good standing) in the Province of Nova Scotia or demonstrate (via a letter from ENS) the ability to be licensed within 6 to 12 months of job start date.
Experience in electrical engineering design and management on healthcare projects or a related field with knowledge of building and healthcare industry standards and requirements.
Must have demonstrated experience (minimum of 3 years experience) with electrical engineering healthcare-related design and construction and experience with CSA healthcare electrical standards and all current and pending national codes and standards including those given below.
Knowledge and experience with the current Canadian Electrical code and a good familiarity with CSA standards such as Z32 CSA C282 Z8000 & Z317.13-12.
Experience with Integrated Design Process (IDP) : Essential to success bringing together all stakeholders early to align goals and optimize passive strategies before adding technology is considered an asset
Experience in producing and / or reviewing construction drawings and details and demonstration of the ability to review and red-line construction documents both from the viewpoint of the electrical discipline and co-ordination review of all disciplines and assets.
Familiarity with spreadsheet budgeting and project scheduling software programs is considered an asset.
Continuing Education courses seminars or workshops in healthcare issues / trends and conflict resolution is considered an asset.
Must have a basic understanding of various construction related contracts and be familiar with Construction Specifications - Canadas National Master Specification Master Format and Canadian Construction Documents Committee Standards Forms and with various methods of specifying including Prescriptive Propriety and Performance.
Familiarity with the Department of Public Works Design Requirements Manual (the DC350) and Nova Scotia Structured Cabling Guidelines would be considered as an asset.
Experience with any or all of the following : LEED Net Zero and Passive Design projects is beneficial.
Experience which demonstrates ability to multi-task and manages several project portfolios at the same time with the same level of attention.
As work pertains to construction must have basic knowledge of safety procedures in the construction environment.

Pay Grade : NSL-14
Salary Range : $3381.28 - $4649.25 Bi-Weekly
Salary Placement : The placement of a new hire into the salary range is based on an objective salary rating process. This process will assess the knowledge skills experiences and overall qualifications of a candidate to determine appropriate placement. Each pay grade has established steps and new hires cannot exceed certain maximums which are outlined in the Compensation Framework.
