About the role

This position sits within cohealth's Alcohol and Other Drugs (AoD) Response North program. The key focus of the role is to improve the health, wellbeing and social inclusion of People Who Use Drugs (PWUD). The program works closely with community to deliver support and advocacy, education, brief interventions, and effective linkages to treatment and referral services.

Working as part of an interdisciplinary team, you will provide care that is safe, person‑centred, confidential and non‑judgmental. The role is based three days per week at our Fitzroy secondary Needle and Syringe Program (NSP), working independently, and two days per week as part of a team at our Innerspace site.

Your duties include:

  • Operate the secondary Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) at the Fitzroy site, including provision of injecting and disposal equipment, harm reduction education, referrals, and management of NSP supplies
  • Support the Innerspace drop‑in program through meal preparation, community development activities, delivery of harm reduction and NSP programs, facilitation of support groups, and health promotion
  • Deliver community engagement and development activities that reduce stigma and promote community safety, wellbeing and inclusion.
  • Provide harm reduction education, advocacy, referrals, and injecting and disposal equipment to service users, supporting safer use and disposal across all service settings

Our ideal candidate:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. AOD, Community Development, Social Work), Certificate IV or higher with minimum two years relevant work experience. Lived experience will be highly regarded
  • Strong understanding of health and social issues affecting people who use drugs, and the ability to work with diverse communities experiencing complex needs.
  • Working with Children's Check (WWCC)
  • Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)
