About the Position

The People & Culture Team is currently seeking a Payroll Analyst to join our team. The Payroll Analyst will operate as a subject matter expert in payroll execution and workforce data analysis. This role is responsible for independently managing complex, high-volume payroll processes for up to 1,800 Alberta-based employees using ADP and Celayix, while ensuring compliance with provincial and federal legislation. The role serves as the primary point of accountability for payroll accuracy, statutory remittances, reconciliations, and reporting deliverables.

People & Culture is part of our Corporate Services Group. The Corporate Services Group is a team of service-minded individuals who are passionate about ensuring innovative, customer-focused business processes are developed and followed. This team serves multiple internal customers and is made up of key business enablers and trusted business partners who provide superior customer service through collaboration, innovation, partnerships, and leadership to ensure the best possible user experience. In alignment with the needs of Explore Edmonton, services include providing governance advice and support, offering scalable business solutions, and creating value for employees by building and facilitating connections across the organization.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Executing full-cycle payroll for salaried and hourly employees using ADP Workforce Now, including time tracking validation via Celayix.
  • Performing payroll balancing, auditing, and reconciliation to ensure accuracy before transmission.
  • Processing statutory deductions, remittances, terminations, vacation pay, and other payroll transactions in compliance with Alberta and federal regulations.
  • Maintaining payroll calendars, schedules, and supporting documentation using SharePoint and internal systems.
  • Responding to payroll inquiries from employees and management, ensuring timely resolution and a high level of service.
  • Ensuring payroll practices are compliant with CRA guidelines, Alberta Employment Standards, and internal policies.
  • Supporting internal and external audits by preparing accurate and timely payroll documentation.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and data integrity across all payroll records.
  • Generating and distributing payroll reports, cost analyses, and trend dashboards for HR, Finance, and senior leadership.
  • Using advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, Power Query, formulas) to clean, analyze, and visualize payroll and workforce data.
  • Identifying trends, discrepancies, and areas for process optimization through data analysis.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to support compensation planning, workforce reporting, and budgeting.
  • Partnering with People Operations and IT to enhance payroll workflows and automate manual processes.
  • Providing input into system configuration, testing, and upgrades for ADP, Celayix, and related tools.
  • Staying up to date on legislative changes, industry trends, and best practices in payroll and HR analytics.

The successful candidate will have:

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on Canadian payroll processing experience, ideally supporting 1,000+ employees.
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta payroll legislation and CRA remittance requirements.
  • Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now and Celayix (or similar time-tracking tools) is an Asset.
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Power Query, MACRO).
  • Experience with SharePoint and reporting/dashboard tools.
  • PCP certification (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) from the National Payroll Institute is strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, confidentiality, and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
