Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking an Intermediate Municipal Engineers for our client, a leading multidisciplinary consulting firm with a strong presence across Alberta. This is an opportunity to make your mark on the province by contributing to municipal infrastructure projects that will serve communities for decades to come.

Based in Edmonton, AB, this role sits within a well-established Municipal team that delivers complex water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects throughout Alberta. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals who value technical excellence, collaboration, and long-term community impact.

The Role

As an Intermediate Municipal Engineer, you will support and lead the planning, design, and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects with a strong emphasis on water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater systems.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Municipal Engineering

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Lead or support the design of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Review grading, surface drainage, and roadway-related designs.
  • Oversee hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and modeling efforts.
  • Review engineering reports, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Support utility coordination, crossing agreements, and cost estimating.

Project Delivery & Construction Support

  • Contribute technical input to proposals and RFP responses.
  • Ensure quality control standards are met across project deliverables.
  • Assist with preparation of tender and procurement documents.
  • Provide contract administration support during construction, including review of shop drawings, progress claims, and contract interpretation.
What You Bring
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or P.Tech. designation (or eligibility).
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience supporting municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Strong background in water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater management.
  • Experience with design and field support on municipal systems.
  • Project coordination or project management experience.
  • Familiarity with construction contracts, drawings, and contractor submittals.Ability to mentor junior staff and provide technical leadership.
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D, ArcGIS, or similar design tools.
  • Experience working directly with clients and stakeholders.

Assets (Nice to Have):

  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software such as PCSWMM or InfoWorks ICM.
  • Knowledge of wastewater and stormwater system design in the Edmonton region.
  • Exposure to business development or proposal writing.
  • Experience collaborating on multidisciplinary project teams.
