Overview:
Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Calgary office is actively hiring for a Specialist, Market Risk to join the team. This position reports to the Director, Middle Office, within the Financial Services team.
The Financial Services team supports the company’s major decisions by providing an in-depth understanding of financial health in both the short and long term, including credit and market risk, weighted average cost of capital, and capital markets opportunities for growth (such as financing strategy and M&A opportunities). The team is responsible for understanding the current state and future scenarios, and their potential impact on external stakeholders, including shareholders and rating agencies.
The Specialist, Market Risk will lead the development and continuous enhancement of risk reporting activities and ETRM integration within Pembina’s Market Risk function. This role will support the Director by providing insights on risk management activities through a comprehensive understanding of market risk and reporting, improving daily risk reporting practices, and serving as a key liaison with Front-office and Back-office personnel across the organization.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

- Lead Pembina’s Risk Reporting processes including developing and running daily risk reports and consolidating material for presentations;
- Perform and present analysis and reporting for Natural Gas, Crude Oil, NGLs, Power, FX and other trading activities to provide updated risk metrics (MTM, positions, PnL, exposure, and VaR);
- Independently validate front office reports (PNL, position, exposure);
- Monitor reports and transaction activity for compliance of trader mandates and limits; investigate anomalies and work collaboratively with Front-Office to resolve;
- Supports the development of the strategy and roadmap for data quality and data analytics, data modeling, reporting, business intelligence, and the design and development of sophisticated decision support tools;
- Leverage ETRM and Data Warehouse systems to develop and maintain quantitative risk models for exposure, position, and P&L reporting, while partnering with Front Office, Treasury, Counterparty Risk, Corporate Development, and Investor Relations to provide risk management insights to senior leadership and support informed decision‑making;
- Partner with commercial teams to perform scenario‑based analysis, assessing potential outcomes, risk exposure, and alignment with portfolio objectives;
- Collaborate with business units in reviewing and developing new and existing product and limit requests;
- Provide informal people leadership by developing and mentoring team members;
- Key stakeholder and SME for ETRM development and maintenance, specifically around requirements for data, testing, reporting, and enhancement opportunities;
- Assist in managing and validating reference data, forward price curves, and forward curve modeling published and internal trader marks;
- Review group deliverables and provide guidance to ensure quality and alignment, while proactively leading initiatives to standardize processes, improve efficiency, and drive automation;
- Exercise sound judgment to identify, analyze, and resolve issues within defined parameters, while providing ad‑hoc analysis and support to other business areas and audit activities, as required; and
- Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline; CFA, CPA, or MBA preferred;
- A minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in market risk management, with commodity experience in the energy sector considered an asset;
- Risk Management designation (ERP or FRM) is considered an asset;
- Working knowledge of risk management metrics (e.g., VaR, stress testing) and industry trends, including regulatory requirements related to risk reporting;
- Demonstrated expertise in energy markets, encompassing physical and financial instruments, end‑to‑end deal life cycles, and risk management methodologies;
- Ability to work autonomously and derive meaningful conclusions to explain book changes in a short period of time;
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications, along with experience working with databases and performing data validation;
- Demonstrated understanding of price risk and energy infrastructure, including fixed price, basis, index, transportation, and storage positions;
- Proven understanding and ability to explain VaR, MTM, position, exposure and other Risk Metrics;
- Outstanding financial modeling and economic evaluation expertise, complemented by strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills, and the ability to communicate insights clearly and effectively;
- Experience implementing an ETRM system is an asset (with preference for experience with RightAngle);
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, Power Query, complex formulas, VBA optional) for data analysis and reporting; and
- Experience using data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau, with the ability to analyze large datasets and develop automated reporting solutions.
