Job Summary

A Brief Overview
Are you ready to apply your software development expertise to building and supporting impactful digital solutions in a higher education environment? Join IT Services' Education Technology (EdTech) team at Queen's University as a Software Developer, where you will design, develop, integrate, and maintain applications that support teaching, learning, and institutional operations.

In this role, you will work independently and collaboratively to deliver secure, reliable solutions using industry standard web and application technologies. Whether working with Java, PHP, Drupal, Microsoft Power Platform, or various cloud based solutions, your contributions will have a meaningful impact on the university community. You will develop and maintain system integrations, automate processes through scripting, and support applications hosted in cloud environments, applying sound judgment to technical and design decisions.

Working closely with academic and administrative units, you will consult on application needs, translate complex requirements into effective technical solutions, and contribute to the continuous improvement of systems and processes. Essential experience includes proficiency in web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, React, Node.js, and Django, and/or experience in Java application development. Hands on proficiency with Drupal is valued, and experience with low code platforms such as Microsoft's Power Platform and Salesforce is considered an asset. Familiarity with cloud computing platforms including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is also beneficial. This position programs, maintains, develops and supports various databases, applications, websites, and/or systems. This position consults with units or departments on a variety of applications needs. This position installs, designs, codes, modifies, tests, debugs, and maintains applications to meet user needs. This position also analyses and revises system logic, develops and maintains bridging integrations between systems, modifies procedures, and documents changes.

This position requires strong problem solving skills, effective communication with both technical and non technical interest-holders, and an understanding of security, accessibility, and risk considerations. A proactive approach to learning, collaboration, and the application of principles of equity, diversity, accessibility, inclusion, and Indigenization is essential to delivering technology solutions that serve the diverse Queen's University community.

Job Description

What you will do
• Programs, maintains, develops and supports various databases, applications, websites, and/or systems.
• Consults with units or departments on a variety of applications needs.
• Installs, designs, codes, modifies, tests, debugs, and maintains applications to meet user needs.
• Analyses and revises system logic, modifies procedures, and documents changes.
• Develops scripts to automate processes.
• Develops and maintains bridging integrations between systems.
• Provides detailed instructions and documentation on system operations.
• Revises procedures and documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, and corrections.
• Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Required Education
• Three-year Community College Diploma or Three-Year Bachelor Degree, or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.

Required Experience
• More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
• Experience with programming languages considered an asset (e.g., C, C++, C#, Objective-C, Java, Python, ASP, Perl, .NET, HTML5, CSS, Assembler, FORTRAN, etc.).
• Experience with scripting languages considered an asset (e.g., HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, maxscript, mel, etc.).
• Experience with software and web technologies considered an asset (e.g., ServiceNow, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), other software packaging, etc.).
• Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
