About the Position

Under the direction of the Crossing Guard Supervisor, the Crossing Guard is responsible for safely escorting pedestrians across roadways, at designated school crossings by monitoring traffic flow gaps, and adhering to regulations, policies and procedures. This position provides excellent customer service, and ensures safe crossing rules are communicated clearly, followed and reinforced as required.

Duties & Responsibilities

The duties listed are not meant to provide a description of each and every job performed but only those which represent the core functions of the job.

-Responsible for safely escorting pedestrians across roadways at designated school crossings.
-Provides excellent customer service to pedestrians.
-Ensures safe crossing rules are communicated clearly and followed at all times.
-Adheres to regulations, policies and procedures as set out by the Ontario Traffic Act, Health and Safety Act, and the City of Welland.

What you need to Succeed...

-Able to travel to various crossings in the City.
-Able to remain alert and perform the job responsibilities in a safe and timely manner.
-Provide excellent customer service skills, and to communicate clearly with pedestrians, residents and school officials.
-Ability to stand or walk and hold the “STOP” sign for extended periods of time.
-A Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required upon hire.
-As a condition of hire, candidates will need to successfully complete a physical assessment through the City's provider that includes vision, hearing and range of motion.

Salary and Benefit Information

The hourly wage for this this part-time, unionized position is $22.29 (2025 rate). OMERS pension is available.
