Agile Programmable Optical Transport R&D organization

is seeking a

Optical Engineer

to develop cutting-edge models and tools that predict optical system performance and enable efficient equipment provisioning. From transoceanic subsea cables to metro and data center interconnects, your work will drive the growth of artificial intelligence and advanced optical networks.

How You Will Contribute :

Define detailed requirements for optical network design tools based on hardware capabilities, software features, and application knowledge.

Participate in software architecture discussions and strategies to evolve underlying systems.

Assist in integrating features across the product portfolio to deliver a seamless end-to-end user experience.

Develop computationally efficient and accurate modeling tools for world-class optical network design.

Recommend equipment provisioning methods based on optical performance and ease of use.

Collaborate with R&D teams, including Tools software development, Network Equipment software, and hardware teams, to contribute link engineering expertise.

The Must Haves :

Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering with advanced optical communication knowledge.

Strong programming skills in C, Matlab, and Python.

Proficiency working in Linux and Windows environments.

Experience developing with Dockerized containers.

Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.

The Assets :

Prior experience in network planning or optical modeling tool development.

A passion for driving innovation and delivering world-class optical network solutions.

Pay Range :

$71,600.00 - $114,400.00

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
