Job description

Strong communities don’t just happen. They’re thoughtfully planned and future-ready. We bring life to urban downtowns, suburban hubs, small towns, and rural areas through master-planned communities, mixed-use developments, parks, and recreation facilities. The result: vibrant economic centers, resilient neighborhoods, and welcoming places that feel like home.

If you’re passionate about empowering communities, join us to discover a career with endless opportunities to make communities more equitable, resilient, and livable.

Your Opportunity

Our Calgary studio is seeking a full-time, entry-level Landscape Architectural Technologist (LAT) to join our Planning and Landscape Architecture team. This role supports the delivery of high-quality, design-led landscape projects from early design through construction, while building strong technical and professional foundations through mentorship and hands-on experience.

Working closely with landscape architects, technologists, engineers, and multidisciplinary project teams, you will support the translation of design intent into clear, accurate, and buildable documentation while developing problem-solving skills across project delivery.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • This role is primarily office-based with opportunities for site and field exposure as experience grows

  • Support landscape architecture projects across multiple phases, including schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration

  • Assist with the preparation of design development and construction drawings, details, and coordinated drawing sets under the guidance of senior team members

  • Assist in translating design concepts into technically sound, accurate, and buildable documentation

  • Support basic conceptual design tasks, such as preliminary layouts, material references, and planting plans

  • Coordinate drawings with internal teams and external consultants, incorporating background information such as surveys and civil drawings

  • Maintain organized CAD files and project documentation in accordance with firm standards and best practices

  • Participate in project meetings, assisting with agendas, meeting minutes, and follow-up items

  • Support basic construction administration activities, including tracking shop drawings, RFIs, and changes

  • Apply municipal standards, regulatory requirements, and project guidelines to technical work with mentorship and direction

Future / Growth Responsibilities (As Opportunities Arise)

While not required at this time, the successful candidate will be supported to grow into the following areas:

  • Assist with presentation materials, design narratives, and basic technical reports

  • Participate in site visits, field reviews, and inspections to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress

  • Support deficiency tracking, site review reports, record drawings, and project close-out documentation

  • Assist with quantity take-offs and introductory cost estimating tasks

  • Support coordination with municipal authorities for submissions, reviews, and approvals

  • Contribute to digital workflows, including 3D models, diagrams, renderings, and visualization tools

  • Contribute ideas, ask questions, and learn from a collaborative team environment that values mentorship, curiosity, and professional development

  • Build confidence working in both office and field environments

Your Capabilities & Credentials

Technical & Software Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D, with the ability to work within established CAD standards

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Familiarity with LandFX and Bluebeam considered an asset

Professional & Collaborative Skills

  • Ability to interpret design intent and support the development of clear, accurate drawings

  • Strong written, verbal, and graphic communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and motivated to produce high-quality work

  • Strong interest in learning through mentorship, project collaboration and developing technical skills

Assets for Future Growth

  • Experience with SketchUp, Revit, Rhino, BIM360, visualization, or digital collaboration tools

  • Ability to participate in office-based work and supervised on-site field activities, as required

  • Interest in gaining hands-on experience through site visits and construction observation

  • Interest in professional development and expanding technical knowledge

  • Eligibility for membership with the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects (AALA)

  • This role provides a foundation for progression into intermediate-level technologist responsibilities over time

Education & Experience

  • Diploma in Landscape Architectural Technology or a Diploma in a related design field, with equivalent practical experience.

  • Entry-level position suitable for candidates with 1–2 years of related experience, including recent graduates with landscape focused education.

  • Experience gained through co-op placements, internships, summer employment, or part-time roles is valued.

  • Previous exposure to landscape construction, site inspections, or field documentation is considered an asset but not required.

Please note that a copy of your portfolio may be requested for review during the interview process.
