As an Environmental Control Technologist you will provide environmental control support to both active and closed City of Calgary owned landfill sites. Primary duties include :
- Implement and execute industrial waste and clean fill control systems and conduct initial waste evaluation and waste pre-screening.
- Conduct site audits of waste generators and / or facilities.
- Process monitoring of the industrial liquids handling facility at Shepard Waste Management Facility.
- Complete environmental compliance monitoring, including groundwater, stormwater, soil vapour, and leachate sampling.
- Provide advice on managing and / or recycling industrial and hazardous wastes to the public, commercial waste generators, and internal customers.
- Manage and maintain documentation and records required by provincial and federal legislation and by the Landfill Operating Approvals issued by the Government of Alberta.
- Develop and deliver environmental training to other employees within Waste and Recycling Services.
Qualifications
- A completed 2 year diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, or a related field with at least 5 years of related experience in environmental compliance monitoring and solid waste management.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, or a Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, with no current suspensions, and no charges pending.
- Experience must also include industrial and hazardous waste characterization / management, environmental and waste sampling.
- Knowledge of environmental science regulations and legislation would be considered assets.
- You have exceptional communication skills accompanied by strong customer focus.
- You also have well-developed problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
