Who we are
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it.
We operate the province’s electricity grid 24 / 7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs now and into the future.
The opportunity
The Sr Analyst, Contracts provides accurate, in-depth, value-added contract management of contracts for the natural gas and storage contract portfolio at the IESO.
The Sr Analyst, Contracts manages and is directly accountable for contract compliance and external counterparty communication and building relationships.
Reporting to the Supervisor, the Sr Analyst, Contracts provides analytical support and recommendations to ensure that contract management processes and documents are effective, efficient, expeditious, ethical, and provides the best possible value to the IESO, Ontario’s power system, and Ontario’s ratepayers.
What you'll do
Contract Management
Contract administration : Manage contract processes, ensuring that all obligations are fulfilled in accordance with the contract requirements, culminating in successful commercial operation of facilities.
Responsible for scheduling and coordinating timely completion of all associated milestones required for each contract.
Negotiation : Support in contract negotiations as required. Assist in the development of negotiation principles, strategies and processes for existing projects / contracts.
Contract development : Participate in the analysis and development of contracting terms and conditions for contract management documents, gas management plans, request for proposals, and contracts for the natural gas and storage portfolio.
Provide input to internal and external legal teams in drafting documents. Advise on contract management issues.
Stakeholder relations : Establish relationships with contract counterparties to work through easy to complex issues such as contract restatements, force majeures and any other requests or contract compliance issues.
Represent the IESO at meetings with proponents, maintaining positive relationships and seek feedback to enhance our processes.
Other Responsibilities
Interface with others internally with other IESO Departments; externally with Hydro One, LDCs and with external contract counterparties.
Provide updates, reports and presentations to the team and management on a regular basis. Act as point of contact and issue expert in support of contracts and compliance.
Monitor sector evolution as it relates to issues affecting generation supply procurements and contracts.
Designing and producing reports with a high level of accuracy, routinely and on an ad hoc basis.
Support resolution of issues, particularly those that the Sr Analyst is responsible for managing.
Supporting issues within Legal Resources and Corporate Governance, including from time-to-time those outside of Contract Management.
Advising on recommend changes in IESO Contract Management policies, procedures, standards, processes, and strategies.
Support implementation of processes, procedures and templates / documents to be used.
Ensure consistent tools and methodologies are utilized and adhered to in all issues and where absent develop the necessary tools and make recommendations to improve processes / procedures to create consistency within the group.
Assist with projects within LRCG or in other IESO Departments. This includes facilitating meetings with other IESO departments, and externally with government and its agencies, as required to meet business objectives; and
And other duties or responsibilities as may be assigned.
What you need to succeed
Undergraduate Degree in Engineering or Business.
At least 2 years of progressive electricity industry experience which may include generation development.
Electricity industry a solid grounding in legal, economic and / or technical aspects of electricity generation.
Electricity generation knowledge of the technical aspects of electricity generation from natural gas and storage resources.
Ontario electricity sector knowledge of the Ontario electricity Market Rules and bidding / dispatch processes, including the new Market Rules being introduce by the Market Renewal Program.
Counterparty focus strong negotiation skills with a focus on problem solving; demonstrated ability to work with contract counterparties in a challenging environment.
Demonstration of strong understanding of business principles and processes as they relate to technology and a strong understanding of business principles and processes as they relate to procurement.
Ability to work effectively within a group and must be able to effectively coordinate with IESO staff and external stakeholders.
Knowledge and ability to prepare documents using Excel and Power Point.
Must be analytical and driven to improve processes and take initiative to highlight opportunities.
Must be detail oriented and must be able to handle multiple priorities in a faced-paced environment.
Communication excellent oral, written and presentation skills are a must.
Ability to adapt and embrace change in a fast-paced, changing environment.

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario.
It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario. When working in the office, you will be located at our Toronto, ON location.
