Job description
Seasonal Kids Program Teacher (Summer Program)
VanWest College is seeking passionate and energetic individuals to join our team as Seasonal Kids Program Teachers for our exciting summer program. As a Kids Program Teacher, you will have the exciting opportunity to inspire and educate children, aged 7-11, while creating a safe and engaging learning environment. This seasonal position will be based at our VanWest College campus, and you will work closely with other educators and staff members.
This is a position for 6 weeks from: July 6th - August 14th 2026
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that align with the program objectives, promote language development, and foster creativity and critical thinking skills.
  • Create a warm, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation, cooperation, and mutual respect among children.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, such as storytelling, arts and crafts, games, and music, to engage children and make learning enjoyable.
  • Guide and facilitate children's learning experiences, providing individualized attention and support to meet their unique needs and learning styles.
  • Assess children's progress through informal observation, formative assessments, and feedback, and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for children, ensuring their well-being during classroom activities, outdoor play, field trips, and excursions.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and program coordinators to develop and enhance curriculum materials, teaching resources, and program content.
  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians to provide updates on their child's progress, share insights, and address any concerns or questions.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues, promoting effective communication and teamwork within the program.
  • Adhere to VanWest College's policies, procedures, and code of conduct, promoting a professional and nurturing work environment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field (or currently pursuing a degree in these fields). Equivalent experience and certifications may be considered.
  • Prior experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development theories, teaching methodologies, and classroom management strategies suitable for children aged 7-11.
  • Ability to create a positive and supportive learning environment, fostering children's curiosity, imagination, and love for learning.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with children, parents, and colleagues effectively.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm to engage children through interactive and hands-on activities.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the dynamic needs of the summer program, including participating in outdoor activities and field trips.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, sharing ideas and resources to enhance the program experience.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is preferred.
  • Fluency in English is required, and proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
