AJISS Engineering Student

Position Summary
Thales Canada is looking for an Engineering student for the 2024 Summer work term on the AOPS and JSS In-Service Support (AJISS) program.
This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in working in the largest in-service support program in Canadian history, supporting the Royal Canadian Navy’s newest class of ships the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships.
Working closely with the other individuals within the Life Cycle Material Management (LCMM) & Engineering Team, the AJISS Engineering Student provides technical support of AOPV systems, researching client issue reports such as (UCR) unsatisfactory condition reports, (ND) Notice of defects, (OBS) obsolescence issues, and (SOCD) statement of capability deficiencies.
Will analyze, research and provide recommendations related to the issues assigned and support the creation of engineering change proposals.
In this role, the individual will gain valuable working experience with troubleshooting technical issues with ship systems, and working with ships technical data package.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Supporting the AJISS Engineering staff on various technical activities to achieve the agreed outcomes, including but not limited to :
- Review of technical design and operating specifications as it relates to the identified issues;
- Technical investigation into problems associated with equipment and / or system malfunction, including option analysis and solution development;
- Support in the development of engineering change proposals (ECP) including technical scope development, budget planning and schedule development;
- Analysis of requirements associated with baseline changes to equipment;
- Support the preparation of system related design change documentation including manufacturing drawings, installation instructions and test and trials documentation;
- Prepare documented work scopes, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as Original Equipment Manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers; and
- Conduct detailed mechanical engineering tasks, including : Requirements analysis;Design calculations;Material compatibility investigation;
Research and review of equipment / system maintenance documentation;Risk and hazard assessments;Assure compliance with Classification Society, Naval Ship Code and Polar Code requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Skills and Abilities :
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Comfortable working within a team environment
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
Education :
Student enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering Program in Canadian University, with a focus in Mechanical, Electrical or Communication Engineering.
Language :
English (Essential)
Preferred Qualifications
Skills and Abilities :
- Prior experience with the preparation of technical reports
- Jira experience is an asset
Education :
Senior Student in a Bachelor of Mechanical, Electrical or Communication Engineering Program preferred.
